About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer with 5+ years of hands-on experience in designing, developing, deploying and maintaining production-grade applications.

The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in Python, FastAPI, databases, cloud infrastructure and API development, along with a good understanding of AI-enabled applications. You should be comfortable taking ownership of the complete backend lifecycle—from architecture and development to deployment, monitoring and production support.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who can independently build scalable backend systems, integrate AI services, work closely with DevOps and guide junior developers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend systems using Python and FastAPI.
• Build secure, reliable and well-documented REST APIs and asynchronous services.
• Take ownership of backend architecture, database design, API contracts and system integrations.
• Develop complete backend workflows from requirement understanding to production deployment.
• Integrate AI models, LLM APIs, recommendation services, embeddings and third-party AI platforms into backend applications.
• Build structured and reliable APIs around AI services, including validation, retries, fallbacks, rate limiting and error handling.
• Work with PostgreSQL, Redis and vector databases for transactional, caching and AI-search requirements.
• Design background-processing systems using queues, workers and event-driven workflows.
• Optimise backend systems for performance, scalability, security and cost.
• Containerise applications using Docker and support deployment on AWS.
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines in collaboration with DevOps.
• Manage environment configurations, secrets, logging, monitoring and production alerts.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Implement authentication, authorisation, role-based access and API security controls.
• Write clean, maintainable and testable code with proper unit and integration testing.
• Participate in sprint planning, code reviews, architecture discussions and release planning.
• Mentor junior and mid-level developers and help maintain engineering standards.
• Collaborate with AI, mobile, frontend, product, QA and UI/UX teams.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python.
• Advanced experience building production APIs using FastAPI.
• Strong understanding of asynchronous programming, concurrency and background processing.
• Experience designing and developing complete backend systems for web or mobile applications.
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, API versioning, validation, authentication and documentation.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, database schema design, indexing and query optimisation.
• Practical experience with Redis for caching, sessions, rate limiting or background jobs.
• Experience integrating AI services, LLM APIs, machine-learning models or AI-based features into applications.
• Good understanding of embeddings, vector search, structured AI responses and model API integration.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and containerised application deployment.
• Experience deploying and managing applications on AWS or an equivalent cloud platform.
• Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Git and GitLab or GitHub workflows.
• Experience with application monitoring, logging, debugging and production support.
• Good understanding of backend security, data protection and secure API development.
• Ability to independently take a backend product from planning to production.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and technical ownership skills.
• Comfortable working full-time from the Gurugram office.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AWS services such as ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, ElastiCache, SQS, API Gateway and CloudWatch.
• Experience with Celery, RabbitMQ, Kafka, SQS or similar queue and messaging technologies.
• Knowledge of WebSockets and real-time application development.
• Experience working with vector databases such as pgvector, Pinecone, Qdrant, Weaviate, Milvus or OpenSearch.
• Understanding of RAG pipelines, prompt orchestration and AI gateway architecture.
• Experience working with OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Amazon Bedrock, Hugging Face or open-source AI models.
• Experience with microservices, modular monoliths or event-driven architecture.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, Terraform or infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Experience working in an early-stage startup or developing a product from zero to one.
• Previous experience mentoring developers or leading backend technical decisions.

• Candidates who have not independently deployed or maintained applications in production.
• Candidates whose AI knowledge is limited only to basic prompt writing.
• Candidates looking exclusively for a managerial role without hands-on coding.
• Candidates without practical experience in Python and FastAPI.

• Understand and strengthen the existing backend architecture.
• Build stable and scalable production APIs.
• Establish clean development, testing and deployment practices.
• Improve backend performance, observability and production reliability.
• Integrate AI services securely and efficiently.
• Create reusable backend modules and clear API documentation.
• Support the deployment and monitoring of applications on AWS.
• Mentor other developers and improve the team’s engineering standards.
