Senior Backend Developer

Roadzen is looking for a Senior Backend Developer with 7-8 years of experience to design, build, and own the backend services and APIs that power our AI-driven insurtech products. You'll work on high-scale, data-intensive systems spanning claims processing, telematics, and policy administration, partnering closely with product, data, and DevOps teams to ship reliable, secure, and performant systems.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure backend services and RESTful/GraphQL APIs powering Roadzen's insurtech products.
• Architect microservices and distributed systems that handle high-volume, real-time data such as telematics feeds, claims, and policy records.
• Own data modeling and database design across relational and NoSQL stores, optimizing for performance, consistency, and scale.
• Drive system design decisions, including service boundaries, caching strategy, async messaging, and API contracts.
• Ensure production reliability through monitoring, logging, alerting, and robust error handling.
• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and uphold strong code review standards across the team.
• Collaborate closely with frontend, DevOps, product, and data teams to ship features end-to-end.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and contribute to technical roadmap and architecture decisions.

Requirements:

• 7-8 years of professional backend software development experience.
• Strong hands-on expertise in one or more of Node.js/TypeScript, Java/Spring Boot, or Python (Django/FastAPI).
• Deep understanding of system design principles for high-scale, high-availability distributed systems.
• Proven experience designing and building RESTful/GraphQL APIs consumed by multiple clients.
• Strong database skills across relational (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB/Redis/DynamoDB) systems, including schema design, indexing, and query optimization.
• Experience with message queues/event streaming (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS) for async and high-throughput processing.
• Solid grasp of cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP), containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Track record of building and scaling systems that handle large data volumes and high request throughput.
• Strong understanding of security best practices: authentication, authorization, data encryption, and API security.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex production issues.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code.

Good to Have:

• Experience in insurtech, insurance, fintech, or other regulated/compliance-heavy domains.
• Exposure to telematics, IoT data pipelines, or claims and policy management systems.
• Experience with real-time data processing frameworks (Spark, Flink).
• Familiarity with observability tooling (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
• Prior experience mentoring engineers or leading small technical initiatives.
• Contributions to open-source projects or technical writing.
