Senior Backend Engineer — Drupal (Hyderabad-based)

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong Drupal experience to design, build, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize the backend services and application logic that power enterprise Drupal digital experiences.

This role is backend-focused and requires deep hands-on Drupal engineering expertise, including custom module development, data modeling, business logic implementation, integrations, and platform-level troubleshooting. You will work closely with frontend engineers, architects, QA, DevOps, and product teams to deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.

This position is intended for Hyderabad-based candidates who are available to work from the office.

• Design, develop, and maintain Drupal backend functionality for enterprise digital applications
• Build and support custom modules, services, plugins, hooks, events, and API integrations
• Implement business logic, data structures, and content/workflow behavior in Drupal
• Develop and maintain integrations with external systems and APIs
• Troubleshoot backend, configuration, data, caching, and platform issues
• Collaborate with frontend engineers to support rendering needs and resolve cross-stack issues
• Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and production troubleshooting
• Support configuration management, deployment readiness, and environment consistency
• Contribute to backend engineering standards, reusable patterns, and technical documentation

• 6+ years of professional software or web application development experience
• 3+ years of hands-on Drupal backend development experience
• Strong knowledge of PHP and Drupal architecture
• Experience building custom Drupal modules, services, plugins, hooks, and event-driven logic
• Strong understanding of Drupal entities, fields, forms, routing, dependency injection, and configuration management
• Experience working with Views, Blocks, custom content structures, and workflows
• Working knowledge of Drupal caching, render cache, cache tags, cache contexts, and invalidation
• Experience integrating Drupal with APIs, external services, and data sources
• Ability to read and analyze frontend impact when needed, and collaborate effectively with frontend engineers
• Strong Git workflow habits and familiarity with modern development tooling
• Ability to troubleshoot complex application issues methodically and communicate clearly across teams

• Experience with Drupal 10/11
• Experience with Acquia Cloud Platform
• Familiarity with Drush, Composer, Docker, or DDEV
• Experience with enterprise-scale or multi-site Drupal platforms
• Experience with performance tuning, security hardening, or DevOps collaboration
• Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines
