We're looking for a Backend Engineer to help design, build and scale modern backend services that power a market-leading digital platform.
You'll join a collaborative engineering team where you'll work alongside Product, Design and Commercial teams to build high-performance applications using modern technologies. This is an opportunity to influence technical direction, contribute to architectural decisions and mentor other engineers while working on exciting, large-scale systems.

What You'll Be Doing
- Design, build and maintain scalable, high-performance backend services using Python
- Translate business requirements into robust technical solutions and architecture
- Develop APIs and microservices that are reliable, secure and easy to maintain
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design and Engineering teams to deliver new features
- Take part in code reviews, pair programming and technical discussions
- Identify opportunities to improve development practices, tooling and Agile processes
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across the team
- Contribute ideas around new technologies, frameworks and engineering best practice

- Strong commercial experience developing backend applications with Python
- Experience building scalable APIs and distributed systems
- Good understanding of object-oriented design, SOLID principles and software architecture
- Strong knowledge of relational databases and data modelling
- Experience working with cloud platforms, ideally AWS
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for clean, maintainable code
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
- Experience mentoring or supporting other developers is desirable
