Senior Backend Engineer

You will design, build, test, deploy, and support scalable backend services. You will develop APIs and real-time functionality, optimize data storage and performance, implement secure authentication and integrations, and own observability, incident investigation, and production reliability.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain production backend services using Go, TypeScript/Node.js, and Python
• Own backend features from architecture and implementation through testing, deployment, and production support
• Design and maintain REST, gRPC, SSE, and WebSocket APIs
• Build communication between internal services and external-facing products
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL data models and queries
• Use Redis and Valkey for caching, state management, and high-performance workloads
• Build integrations with S3-compatible storage, Cloudflare R2, and third-party services
• Implement secure authentication and authorization using Auth0 and JWT
• Implement payment functionality using Stripe where relevant
• Optimize services for latency, throughput, resource utilization, and reliability
• Build automated tests and automate delivery through GitLab CI/CD
• Build logs, metrics, traces, and health checks
• Monitor production systems and investigate incidents
• Participate in architecture discussions, technical planning, code reviews, and technical documentation

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience building production systems
• Commercial experience with Go
• Experience with TypeScript/Node.js and/or Python in backend environments
• Knowledge of backend architecture, APIs, and distributed systems
• Experience designing and building REST and/or gRPC APIs
• Experience with WebSockets or SSE
• Experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design, indexing, query optimization, and transactions
• Experience with Redis, Valkey, or similar in-memory data stores
• Knowledge of concurrency, networking, caching, asynchronous processing, and service-to-service communication
• Experience with JWT, Auth0, or comparable authentication technologies
• Experience with Docker and AWS-based production environments
• Experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines
• Knowledge of production reliability, monitoring, debugging, and performance optimization
