Senior Backend Engineer (Intelligo)
Summary
Senior backend role owning distributed systems for a data collection platform. Builds fault-tolerant workflows across third-party APIs using TypeScript/NestJS in an Nx monorepo with MongoDB, AWS, and message brokers. Fully remote async culture.

The Role
We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to own the distributed core of the tech-enabled due diligence platform for global open source research into individuals and companies. This is a deep, hands-on senior role for someone who thinks in terms of state machines, backpressure, and failure modes, but who's equally comfortable inventing a solution where none exists off the shelf. We work asynchronously and trust people to own their work, so we're looking for someone who thrives without a desk next to theirs.
What You'll Do
-
Orchestrate Durable Work: Model multi-stage collection flows as resumable, fault-tolerant processes, ensuring no task silently stalls or double-runs.
-
Tame Unreliable Upstreams: Coordinate thousands of in-flight tasks across diverse third-party APIs and scrapers, designing for rate limiting, backpressure, and graceful degradation when an upstream falls over.
-
Solve Open-Ended Problems: Take on the interesting problems—the ones without an obvious answer, evaluate state-of-the-art techniques, and reach for the right algorithm or tool to solve them.
-
Ensure Observability: Build the instrumentation and health signals needed to detect, isolate, and debug stuck flows across distributed logs and traces before they become incidents.
-
Deliver End-to-End: Own features from the orchestration layer to execution inside our TypeScript / NestJS Nx monorepo, while optimizing data models and aggregations at scale in MongoDB.
What We're Looking For
-
6+ years building production backend systems with strong TypeScript / Node.js (NestJS preferred).
-
Deep distributed-systems experience: Async/event-driven processing, idempotency, retries/timeouts, and reasoning rigorously about consistency and failure.
-
Strong database fundamentals: Practical experience with MongoDB (schema design, indexing, aggregation pipelines, and performance tuning under load).
-
Remote-First Mindset: Highly self-directed, disciplined about documentation, and able to drive work forward through ambiguity without hand-holding.
-
Pragmatic Engineering: A history of tight scoping, iterative delivery, real tests, and a sharp eye for on-call sanity.
Bonus Points For:
-
Large-scale data harvesting across diverse APIs — pagination, rate limits, proxy rotation, anti-bot handling, and resilient extraction.
-
Experience with message brokers and streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, NATS) or durable-execution/workflow engines.
-
Cloud infrastructure and containerization (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes) alongside modern CI/CD pipelines.
-
Caching and rate-limiting infrastructure (e.g., Redis) under real load.
-
Monorepo architecture (Nx) and performance profiling/cost optimization of data-heavy services.
-
Exposure to integrating LLM-backed features.
