This permanent role places you at the centre of modern backend engineering - designing mission-critical services, driving cloud-native development, and leveraging AI technologies to accelerate software delivery within a highly collaborative engineering team.
The Role
Design, build, deliver - here's what you'll be responsible for:
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services using Java 17 and Spring Boot within a cloud-native architecture
- Build scalable microservices and RESTful APIs that support enterprise banking applications with a strong focus on security, reliability, and performance
- Deploy, manage, and optimise applications on Kubernetes while contributing to containerisation and cloud-native engineering best practices
- Collaborate with Solution Architects, Business Analysts, Product Owners, and engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient banking solutions
- Optimise application performance, troubleshoot production issues, and continuously improve system reliability and observability
- Implement secure coding standards, automated testing, and CI/CD practices to support high-quality software delivery
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools and modern AI technologies to improve engineering productivity, code quality, and software delivery processes
What We're Looking For
A technically strong, cloud-native backend engineering professional:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on backend development experience, with strong expertise in Java 17 and Spring Boot
- Proven experience designing and developing enterprise-grade microservices and RESTful APIs
- Strong experience deploying and managing containerised applications using Kubernetes
- Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, Git, and modern DevOps practices
- Solid understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, application performance tuning, and distributed systems
- Experience working within cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is highly desirable
- Knowledge of enterprise integration, messaging technologies, and event-driven architecture is an advantage
- Experience working in the banking or financial services industry with an understanding of secure, regulated application development
- Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or similar, with exposure to integrating AI capabilities into software engineering workflows
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in Agile delivery teams
