Responsibilities:
- Design and own backend systems that reliably orchestrate interactions with live, real-world web pages at scale.
- Build and maintain robust parsing, extraction, and automation pipelines capable of handling complex modern web environments.
- Develop resilient interaction logic by deeply understanding HTML, CSS, and DOM structures.
- Architect and optimise HTTP-level systems, including request handling, session management, headers, cookies, rate limiting, and retries.
- Establish and enforce backend engineering standards focused on correctness, observability, and fault tolerance.
- Mentor junior engineers, lead technical reviews, and drive key architectural decisions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver reliable, scalable systems from zero to one.
Requirements:
- 3 years of backend engineering experience with a strong track record of delivering complex, production-grade systems end-to-end.
- Deep understanding of browser rendering processes, including HTML/CSS parsing and DOM construction/mutation.
- Strong expertise in CSS selectors and XPath for reliable element targeting.
- Advanced knowledge of HTTP fundamentals, networking, headers, sessions, cookies, proxies, and authentication flows.
- Proven experience in designing resilient, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
- Strong systems-thinking ability, skilled in debugging complex issues, analysing failure modes, and writing maintainable code.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and making pragmatic architectural trade-offs.
Nice to Have:
- Deep JavaScript expertise, including V8 internals, async execution, or browser runtime behaviour.
- Hands-on experience with headless browsers such as Playwright, Puppeteer, or Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP).
- Background in large-scale scraping, crawling, or web integration platforms.
- Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue) from an automation or instrumentation perspective.
- Experience building agentic systems or LLM-integrated pipelines.
