Senior Backend Engineer

In this role you will architect and build ultra-scale distributed systems for a technology-led financial services firm, owning end-to-end architecture and reliability in a lean environment. You will design event-driven architectures, partitioning strategies, and highly scalable data platforms with a focus on reliability and fault tolerance. You will lead performance optimisation across application, infra, storage, networking and caching layers, and evaluate emerging technologies including AI-driven capabilities. • Architect and build large-scale distributed systems supporting millions of users and high request-throughput
• Design event-driven architectures and scalable data platforms with reliability and fault tolerance
• Lead performance optimisation across app, infra, storage, networking and caching layers

• Extensive backend engineering experience with highly scalable distributed systems in production
• Proven experience operating services handling 20,000-30,000+ requests per second and large-scale traffic
• Deep expertise in system design, distributed architecture, concurrency, partitioning and performance engineering
• Track record of solving scaling, latency, reliability, and availability challenges in mission-critical platforms
• Strong technical curiosity and ability to learn new technologies, domains, and AI capabilities independently
