About the role

We’re building AI-powered product features that need to be reliable, useful, scalable, and shipped fast. We need an engineer who can take meaningful product areas from idea to production: understand the user problem, design the system, build the backend, integrate with LLMs and AI APIs, ship the feature, observe how it behaves, and iterate.This role sits at the intersection of backend engineering, product engineering, and applied AI systems. You’ll build APIs, services, data flows, integrations, and infrastructure—but you’ll also work directly with LLM APIs, RAG pipelines, tool-calling, agentic workflows, experimentation frameworks, and AI-specific observability.This is not primarily an AI/ML research role. You will not be training foundation models or doing academic ML. You will, however, be building production-grade systems around LLMs and AI agents, and you should be genuinely fluent in how modern AI systems are designed, called, evaluated, debugged, and shipped.

What you'll do

Build backend systems for LearnWise products

Design and implement services that support our core product experience.

Work on integrations with external systems, data flows, and internal platform capabilities.

Build systems where reliability, security, and observability matter.

Design APIs and services

Create clean APIs, service boundaries, data models, and async workflows.

Build maintainable backend services that other engineers can confidently use and extend.

Improve and stabilize existing systems as the product and customer base grow.

Work with authentication, authorization, permissions, and secure service-to-service communication.

Help meet customer expectations around access control, auditability, reliability, and data protection.

Collaborate across product and engineering

Work closely with Product, Design, AI, and Engineering to turn customer needs into practical technical solutions.

Clarify scope, identify risks, propose trade-offs, and ship iteratively.

Debug production issues across backend services, infrastructure, integrations, and third-party systems.

What you bring

5 years of professional experience building production backend systems

Hands-on experience integrating third-party systems (e.g. APIs, webhooks, data synchronization, or external platform integrations)

Currently based in Europe and able to work full-time in a remote, async-first environment

Hands-on experience with authentication or authorization technologies such as OAuth/OIDC, SSO, JWT, RBAC, or service-to-service authentication

Have designed, built, or maintained production APIs or microservices used by customers or other engineering teams

Nice to have

Experience building or maintaining distributed, event-driven, or asynchronous backend systems

Hands-on experience with MongoDB or another document database in production

AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud in production

Experience with Python and FastAPI or a similar framework

Worked on AI-powered products, LLM integrations, RAG systems, or AI agent workflows
