Senior Backend Engineer (New York City Metropolitan Area)

Senior Backend Engineer (Senior II) | NYC | Up to $230k + Equity

We're working with a well-funded Series B scale-up that's raised over $60m and grown to more than 100 employees. They're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build and scale complex, high-volume integrations with external systems and third-party platforms.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on backend architecture, API development and large-scale data synchronisation, with significant ownership over the reliability and scalability of their integrations.

What you'll be working on

• Designing and building complex, high-volume integrations with third-party APIs and external systems.
• Developing scalable backend services, asynchronous workflows and event-driven architectures.
• Building large-scale data synchronisation pipelines using webhooks, polling and ETL processes.
• Implementing reliable integration patterns, including rate limiting, retries, idempotency and queue management.
• Owning the architecture, performance and reliability of integrations operating in production.

What they're looking for

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong background in backend development.
• Extensive experience building and scaling read/write integrations with external systems and third-party APIs.
• Strong understanding of asynchronous processing, data synchronisation, queues and distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js and SQL databases, with experience designing APIs and data models.
• Experience with OAuth, webhooks, rate limiting, retry logic and background job processing.
