Senior Backend Engineer (Python)
Summary
Senior Backend Engineer building Python-based APIs and data pipelines for Elixi, an AI-driven health-tech startup in Dubai. Day to day: designing FastAPI REST services, integrating internal and third-party systems, and monitoring performance using PostgreSQL, Redis/Kafka, AWS, Docker and Kubernetes alongside data scientists and product managers.

About the role
We are seeking a skilled Python Developer to join our AI-driven health tech startup, where we leverage cutting-edge technology to empower users with personalised health insights and recommendations. In this role, you will play a crucial part in developing scalable APIs, optimising data pipelines, and implementing machine learning algorithms that help users take control of their health.
As part of a collaborative, fast-paced environment, you will work closely with data scientists, product managers, and designers to build seamless solutions that integrate health data, enhance user experience, and drive innovation in personal health management. Your contributions will directly impact how people track, schedule, and optimize their well-being through technology.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain APIs for health management features.
- Develop and support integrations with internal and external systems.
- Work with cross-functional teams to deliver features and integrations.
- Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews.
- Monitor and improve application performance.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience with Python.
- Experience building REST APIs with FastAPI.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs and services.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL.
- Experience with Redis, Kafka, or similar technologies.
- Experience with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with Pandas and NumPy.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Nice-to-Have's
- Experience with back-office systems and operational workflows.
- Experience with payments/processing systems.
- Experience working with AI APIs (OpenAI, Gemini, etc.).
