Senior Backend Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong expertise in TypeScript and NestJS to build, ship, and support scalable backend applications running on AWS. The ideal candidate is a strong software engineer who values clean code, test-driven development, pragmatic engineering, and long-term maintainability. You should be comfortable working in an agile/lean startup environment where engineering craftsmanship needs to be balanced with speed and business impact.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to understand and refine requirements, solution designs, and user stories.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support scalable backend applications using TypeScript and NestJS.
• Write clean, maintainable, testable, and production-ready code following engineering best practices.
• Apply software engineering principles such as SOLID, KISS, YAGNI, and lean software development.
• Follow true Test-Driven Development (TDD) and ensure code is thoroughly tested before release.
• Build and maintain microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Contribute to platform-level thinking and design solutions that are scalable, reliable, and maintainable.
• Build, deploy, and operate NestJS applications on AWS.
• Take ownership of your components through the complete lifecycle, from development to production support.
• Provide L3 production support for owned components and contribute to L1/L2 knowledge bases to improve customer support.
• Ensure delivered features are ready to ship without dependency on manual testing.
• Balance engineering quality and architectural fidelity with pragmatism, delivery timelines, and business requirements.
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, technical discussions, code reviews, and team activities.
• Communicate clearly, accurately, and respectfully with cross-functional and engineering teams.

Requirements:

• 6+ years of backend development experience, with strong hands-on experience in TypeScript.
• 3+ years of professional experience with NestJS as a core backend technology.
• Strong understanding of NestJS architecture, concepts, patterns, and use cases.
• Proven experience building, deploying, and supporting NestJS applications on AWS.
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture and event-driven systems.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and commitment to clean, maintainable code.
• Hands-on experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and automated testing.
• Strong understanding and practical application of SOLID, KISS, YAGNI, and lean software development principles.
• Experience working in Agile / Lean/startup environments where speed, pragmatism, and engineering quality need to be balanced.
• Strong ownership mindset with experience taking backend services from development through production and support.
• Advanced proficiency with Claude Code.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• Must be Bangalore-based and willing to work from the Koramangala office.
• Ability to join within 30 days.

Good to Have:

• Frontend development experience with Next.js .
• Experience in infrastructure architecture and high-level solution design.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), particularly Terraform.
• Broader exposure to cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, and distributed systems.
