Senior Backend Engineer

You will design, build, and operate Java backend services from initial design through production support. You will use AI-assisted, specification-driven development; build secure APIs and financial workflows; operate AWS infrastructure; integrate external partners; contribute to security and compliance controls; and improve engineering practices through reviews and design documents.

Responsibilities

• Use AI models and coding agents to produce, review, test, and harden production code
• Shape AI development specifications, conventions, guardrails, and review practices
• Design, build, and own Java backend services
• Build secure APIs, data models, and services
• Implement authentication, authorization, secrets management, encryption, and least-privilege access
• Ensure reliability through idempotency, reconciliation, safe retries, failure states, and audit trails
• Shape AWS infrastructure, observability, alerting, and incident response
• Build resilient integrations with external partners
• Contribute to threat modelling, code review, vulnerability management, and compliance controls
• Raise engineering standards through code review and design documents

Requirements

• AI-first engineering approach with specification-driven development using AI models and coding agents
• 5–8 years of professional Java backend engineering experience
• Hands-on Spring and Spring Boot experience
• Experience with Spring Security, Spring Data, and transaction management
• Hands-on AWS experience, including IAM, networking, managed databases, queues, and infrastructure as code
• Security engineering experience including OAuth/OIDC, secrets management, encryption, and secure SDLC practices
• Relational database experience with Amazon RDS, PostgreSQL or MySQL, SQL, schemas, indexing, migrations, transactions, consistency, and concurrency
• Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architecture, messaging, idempotent processing, and partial-failure recovery
