Our client, a prominent software development house in Durban , is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to contribute to the design and development of complex enterprise-level applications. You will be instrumental in building scalable, efficient, and secure server-side logic, managing databases, and integrating with various third-party services. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with modern backend technologies, a strong understanding of software architecture patterns, and a passion for writing high-quality, maintainable code. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver robust solutions that meet business objectives.
Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable server-side applications using languages such as Java, Python, or C#. Build and manage RESTful APIs and microservices, ensuring seamless integration with front-end applications and third-party systems. Optimize application performance, ensuring high availability and low latency. Manage database systems (SQL and No SQL), including schema design, query optimization, and data integrity. Write clean, well-documented, and testable code, adhering to established coding standards and best practices. Collaborate with front-end developers, product managers, and QA engineers to define requirements and deliver features. Implement security best practices to protect data and applications. Conduct code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and junior engineers. Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex technical issues in production environments. Stay up-to-date with emerging backend technologies and design patterns, recommending adoption where appropriate. Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to the overall technical strategy. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field. A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in backend software development. Strong proficiency in one or more server-side programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C#, Go, Node.js). Extensive experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs. Solid understanding of database technologies (e.g., Postgre SQL, My SQL, Mongo DB) and data modeling. Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is highly desirable. Familiarity with message queuing systems (e.g., Rabbit MQ, Kafka) and caching mechanisms (e.g., Redis). Knowledge of software design patterns, SOLID principles, and microservices architecture. Experience with testing frameworks and practices (unit, integration, end-to-end testing). Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with experience in agile methodologies. Ability to work effectively within a team located in Durban.
