Senior Backend Software Engineer

The role
Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Own the design and delivery of backend services for a data-heavy software platform, working directly alongside the founding team. The work spans high-volume data handling, workflow automation and third-party integrations, with full responsibility for architecture and implementation.
What you'll do
- Build and scale distributed backend services that handle large volumes of documents and transactional data.
- Own automation systems that interact with external web applications and portals.
- Design dependable infrastructure for mixed-format data, including scanned files, PDFs and both structured and unstructured records.
- Build orchestration, queuing, retry and monitoring tooling for long-running workflows that are prone to failure.
- Partner with research and product engineers to move new machine learning capabilities into production.
- Establish the engineering patterns that future team members will build on.
Requirements
What we're looking for
- At least 3 years of hands-on backend engineering, including responsibility for production systems that grew in scale and complexity.
- Time spent at an organization with a strong reputation for engineering quality.
- Practical background in building pipelines, coordinating multi-step jobs or working with very large, untidy datasets.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, math or a related field.
- Solid knowledge of Python, microservices and distributed systems.
- Ability to architect and deliver backend systems from start to finish with little supervision.
- Genuine enthusiasm for a very small early-stage startup and a high-intensity pace.
- Based in or willing to relocate to the San Francisco area.
Bonus points
- Experience running LLMs or ML models in production.
- Experience with browser automation or complex integration work.

- Base salary: USD 160,000 to 200,000 per year
