Description

About Candide

Candide is an AI-first tech company based at Babylonstoren in the Cape Winelands, with a second office in the UK. We build the digital products behind some of the world’s most celebrated hospitality and lifestyle estates — Babylonstoren, The Newt in Somerset, Vignamaggio, and others.

Our office sits on the Babylonstoren estate itself, surrounded by gardens, mountains, and farm-to- table food. We design, build and maintain eCommerce platforms, mobile apps, admissions and membership systems, booking engines, and brochure websites. Our team is small but high-impact, working across a portfolio of luxury brands that people genuinely love.

Role purpose

You will make sure every estate leader understands their business deeply, sees problems and opportunities early, and acts with confidence.

You do that by turning business questions into reports and analysis people trust and use, quickly and to a high standard, and by helping build the foundation the pod’s reporting stands on. This is a senior, hands-on role: most of your time goes into building, checking and delivering. The Insights & Predictive Analytics pod owns everything from the semantic model to the person using the data: reporting, metric definitions, self-service analytics and forecasting. Working with the Head of Data & CRM, you help shape the models, standards and ways of working of that layer, own delivery end to end for the estates and business areas you look after, and lead forecasting for them.

This role suits an experienced analyst who enjoys delivering, learns a business fast, takes on demanding reporting work and wants to help set how a growing pod builds.

Key responsibilities

Business understanding

  • Become the go-to analyst for the business areas you look after: what they sell, what drives their performance and how decisions are made.
  • Work with business owners to understand what they need to see, and challenge a request when a better measure exists.
  • Propose the metrics, leading and lagging indicators and owners for your areas, and agree them through the pod’s metric governance.
  • Be the pod’s technical voice on your projects: explain what is possible, what it will cost and what the trade-offs are, and break large requests into plans with the Product Owner.

Reporting delivery

  • Take requests from question to trusted report: requirements, build, checks, release and handover.
  • Take on complex, high-value reporting work, turning an unclear question into a report the business relies on.
  • Build reports, measures and model extensions on the pod’s shared, certified models.
  • Write and interpret SQL across our data sources to answer questions and test what you build.
  • Keep several pieces of work moving at once, deliver at a steady pace and set realistic expectations when priorities compete.

Semantic models and standards

  • Design and own one or more of the pod’s shared, certified semantic models, built for other analysts to reuse across estates.
  • Help write and keep up the pod’s standards for modelling, naming, measures and report design, and set the example in your own work.
  • Help set up and run how reporting moves to production: version control, testing, and review and approval before release.
  • Agree with Data Engineering where data and business rules live for the models you own.

Metric governance and data quality

  • Take the metrics for your areas through to one certified definition, documented and used the sameway across estates.
  • Check your numbers against source and existing reports before release, and build checks that catch problems before stakeholders do.
  • Raise data gaps and issues with Data Engineering, rather than working around them in a report.
  • Look after the day-to-day health of the reporting estate, such as access, refresh schedules and workspace tidiness.
  • Move older reports onto certified measures, and retire those that no longer earn their place.

Insight, analysis and forecasting

  • Answer the question that was asked, and point out trends, early warnings and what to do about them.
  • Turn repeated one-off analysis into reporting that people can use again.
  • Lead forecasting for your areas: choose the method, track accuracy against actuals over time, and
  • explain uncertainty honestly.

Self-service and enablement

  • Lead self-service for your areas: help estate teams find answers for themselves through self-
  • service and AI tools, and make sure those answers match the reports.
  • Train report users so they get real value from what you build.
  • Document your work so others can understand, use and maintain it.

Working in the pod

  • Review modelling, code and reports across the pod, giving feedback that raises the standard.
  • Pair with the Data Analyst on builds, and help them grow.
  • Take part in hiring and onboarding new analysts.
  • Spot where AI-assisted workflows can make the pod faster, and build and share the ones that prove their worth.
  • Bring design ideas to the Head of Data & CRM with clear reasoning, and act on review feedback.

What we’re looking for

Essential

  • A relevant tertiary degree, for example in Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics,
  • Mathematics, Economics or Business Analytics.
  • Typically 6+ years in BI or data analysis, with a strong record of delivering reports that people use and owning delivery for a business area end to end.
  • Hands-on Power BI or a comparable BI tool: data modelling, measures (DAX or similar), data preparation and publishing.
  • Experience designing semantic models that other analysts reuse.
  • Strong SQL, and the habit of checking your own numbers before anyone else sees them.
  • Experience on a cloud data platform such as BigQuery.
  • Version control and CI/CD (automated testing and release) for BI or data work.
  • Evidence that you turned a business question into a report or metric that changed a decision.
  • Fast, organised delivery across several requests at once, with close attention to detail.
  • Clear communication with non-technical people, and openness to review and feedback.
  • Practical, critical use of AI tools in your own work.

Advantageous

  • Setting standards that other people followed.
  • Experience guiding, pairing with or reviewing the work of other analysts.
  • Forecasting or statistical analysis in Python or R.
  • Hospitality, retail, ecommerce, membership or financial reporting.
  • Data from hotel, point-of-sale or finance systems.
  • Self-service, semantic-layer or AI-enabled analytics tools.
  • Afrikaans in addition to English.

How we will know it is working

Estate teams get trusted answers quickly

  • The time from request to trusted report keeps falling for the areas you look after.
  • Most of what you release needs no rework after release.
  • Our own checks find data issues before stakeholders do.

Reporting is built on shared foundations

  • New reporting uses the shared, certified models and agreed metric definitions, not one-off builds.
  • The models you own are reused by other analysts and across estates.
  • The standards you help write are followed in review, and rework after release keeps falling.

Leaders trust the numbers and know what’s coming

  • A growing share of metrics in your areas has one certified definition, used the same way across
  • estates.
  • Forecasts in your areas are used in planning, tracked against actuals and held within an agreed
  • range.

Insight leads to action

  • More people use your reports regularly, and keep coming back.
  • Stakeholders can point to decisions they made differently because of your work.
  • The pod grows stronger
  • Your technical depth grows year on year, and you take on more complex work.
  • What you build and share is reused across estates and by others in the pod.
  • The analysts you review and pair with grow in confidence, and their work needs less rework.

Perks & Benefits

  • Daily catered lunch.
  • Flexible working hours — core hours are 9am to 3pm.
  • Choice of equipment (most of us use Apple).
  • Generous training and conference budget.
  • 30% discount at Babylonstoren — online shop, hotel, spa, and farm shops.
  • Free admission to Babylonstoren for you and immediate family.
  • Access to Babylonstoren’s recreation centre, gym, swimming pool, and studios.
  • Quarterly socials and team building.
