Senior BI/Data Engineer
Summary
Senior BI/Data Engineer owning and modernizing ACT Group's enterprise Data Platform: building data pipelines, relational/dimensional models and Power BI semantic models, driving migrations and the move to Microsoft Fabric (with Databricks where useful). Core stack: Azure Data Factory, Fabric, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, SQL, Python.
Your Role in Our Story:
As a Senior BI/Data Engineer at ACT, you will play a key role in modernizing and scaling our enterprise Data Platform. Combining hands-on engineering with technical ownership, you will design reliable, scalable data solutions across data integration, modelling, analytics engineering and platform architecture.
Beyond delivery, you will help shape our platform roadmap and engineering standards, with a focus on architecture, automation, performance, security and cost efficiency. Microsoft Fabric is an important part of our modernization journey, alongside technologies such as Databricks where they add value. You will also have the opportunity to explore practical applications of Generative AI across development, documentation and platform operations.
We value ownership, collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. In essence, your role involves:
- Own and continuously improve key components of ACT’s Data Platform architecture and engineering standards.
- Design and implement integrations for new source systems and build reliable, maintainable data pipelines.
- Design, implement and document enterprise data models, including relational and dimensional models.
- Develop, optimize and operate data pipelines and orchestration using technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Functions and Logic Apps.
- Plan and execute data migrations with appropriate validation, reconciliation, data-quality controls and operational monitoring.
- Contribute to the modernization of the Data Platform using Microsoft Fabric and, where appropriate, Databricks and other modern data technologies.
- Develop and maintain trusted semantic models that enable scalable Power BI reporting, analytics and emerging AI use cases.
- Translate business requirements into sustainable technical solutions and communicate design choices clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrate data and analytics solutions to business stakeholders and support adoption through clear documentation and knowledge sharing.
Your Expertise:
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and attributes:
- A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Information Technology, Data Engineering or a comparable field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in data engineering, including substantial hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure or another major cloud platform.
- Hands-on experience with modern data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics, Databricks or Snowflake.
- Strong SQL skills and practical experience with Python for data engineering, automation or testing.
- Strong understanding of modern data architectures, including data warehouses, data lakes and Lakehouse patterns.
- Strong data-modelling skills, particularly relational and dimensional modelling; familiarity with additional modelling approaches is beneficial.
- Ability to design, troubleshoot and optimize data transformations, SQL workloads and data pipelines for performance, reliability and maintainability.
- Experience with Power BI, semantic models or comparable analytics and visualization technologies is an advantage.
- Experience with Git, automated testing and CI/CD practices for data and analytics solutions.
- Experience with relevant Azure services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Synapse Analytics or Azure Automation is an advantage.
- Knowledge of streaming, event-driven architectures or real-time analytics is an advantage.
- A collaborative and proactive mindset, strong communication skills, and the ability to take ownership while continuously learning and sharing knowledge.
If you meet these criteria and are ready to contribute your expertise to a dynamic and challenging environment, we encourage you to apply.
