THE ROLE

Senior Business Analyst – Custom Development

We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior Business Analyst – Custom Development to lead the end-to-end delivery of custom-built business applications within a large, complex and project-driven organisation.

Reporting to the General Manager of IT, you will be the central point of accountability between business stakeholders and our onshore and offshore development teams. This is a hands-on delivery role for someone who can translate operational needs into clear technical requirements, maintain momentum through development and testing, and ensure solutions are successfully deployed and adopted.

You will do more than document requirements. You will own outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead requirements discovery and translate business needs into clear user stories, process flows and acceptance criteria.

• Work closely with onshore and offshore developers to clarify requirements, review proposed solutions and resolve delivery issues.

• Manage scope, priorities, backlogs, sprints, releases, risks and dependencies.

• Drive the delivery of working software through practical, iterative releases.

• Specify and coordinate integrations between custom applications and platforms such as ERP, finance, HR, document management and Microsoft 365 systems.

• Define data mappings, API requirements, validation rules and data-quality controls.

• Own functional, regression and integration testing, including test-case preparation and defect management.

• Coordinate user acceptance testing and ensure issues are resolved before release.

• Lead change-impact assessments, communications, training and go-live support.

• Coordinate deployment, cutover and hypercare activities across development, infrastructure and business teams.

• Provide second- and third-level support for custom applications and work with developers to implement permanent solutions.

• Review development estimates, statements of work and deliverables against agreed scope, quality and commercial expectations.

• Maintain accurate, fit-for-purpose documentation without creating process for its own sake.

• Use AI-assisted tools to accelerate requirements analysis, testing, documentation and defect investigation while maintaining accountability for accuracy, privacy and data security.

• Identify practical opportunities to improve delivery quality, speed and cost through AI and automation.

About you

You are a pragmatic and commercially minded Senior Business Analyst who is equally comfortable engaging with executives, operational teams and software developers. You communicate clearly, challenge ambiguity and take responsibility for ensuring that agreed outcomes are delivered.

You will bring:

• At least five years’ experience as a Business Analyst working on custom software development.

• Approximately eight to ten years’ overall experience across IT, technology delivery or business systems.

• Demonstrated experience delivering new systems end-to-end with both offshore and onshore development teams.

• Strong experience in agile delivery environments.

• Experience specifying, managing and testing system integrations.

• Hands-on capability with Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence or comparable platforms.

• Enough familiarity with SQL, APIs and common data formats to independently investigate and validate solutions.

• Practical experience using AI tools within business analysis, testing or software-delivery workflows.

• Exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality.

• The ability to manage competing priorities and remain organised and calm under pressure.

• A proactive, accountable working style with minimal need for supervision.

• Sound judgement when handling confidential business information and company data.

• Full working rights in Australia.

Experience within construction, engineering, property or another project-based industry will be highly regarded.

A bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business or a related discipline is preferred. Agile, business analysis or project-management certifications such as CBAP, CSM, CSPO or PRINCE2 will also be viewed favourably.
