Senior Business Development Manager – Global Payments
About the role
Build a new international payments business, from finding clients to signing deals, for a regulated financial institution
DACH / UK / Italy | Full-time | Permanent
Our client is a regulated financial institution building a modern payments business, using both traditional and newer digital payment methods (including stablecoins) to help companies move money across borders more easily.
They are looking for an experienced business development professional to grow this payments business from the ground up. You will bring in new clients, build partnerships, and help shape the strategy for the whole payments unit.
What you will do
- Build and run the growth plan for the payments business, focused on cross-border payments and modern payment rails.
- Build relationships with payment companies, fintechs, payment processors, and other players in the payments world.
- Find and close new business with clients who need international payment and settlement solutions.
- Own the whole sales process: finding leads, meeting clients, designing solutions, negotiating, and signing contracts.
- Understand each client's payment needs and design solutions that fit, using both standard and digital payment tools.
- Work with product, operations, compliance, legal, and technology teams to onboard clients smoothly.
- Build partnerships with banks and other payment infrastructure providers.
- Track your own performance against sales and revenue targets using CRM tools.
- Attend industry events and conferences to build the business's profile in the payments space.
- Keep an eye on market trends and competitors to spot new opportunities.
What we are looking for
- 8 to 15+ years of experience in sales, business development, or relationship management within payments, banking, or fintech.
- A track record of winning and closing strategic partnerships or major client relationships.
- An existing network among payment companies, fintechs, payment processors, or digital asset businesses.
- Solid understanding of how international payments work, including correspondent banking and cross-border payment networks.
- Good understanding of stablecoins and digital payment technology; hands-on experience selling these solutions is a strong plus.
- Strong commercial instincts — able to spot opportunities and build long-term revenue.
- Experience launching a new product, market, or business line from scratch.
- Comfortable dealing with senior decision-makers and negotiating at a high level.
- Experience working with clients across Europe, the UK, the Middle East, or North America is an advantage.
- A self-starter who enjoys building something new inside a larger, regulated organisation.
