SUMMARY
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Senior Buyer / Purchasing Lead will be responsible for leading purchasing activities across the Huco product portfolio. The role combines hands-on procurement with leadership support, ensuring materials, goods, and services are sourced efficiently to meet operational requirements.
The role focuses on cost, quality, and continuity of supply, while driving supplier performance and supporting continuous improvement within the procurement function.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Analyse, review, and place purchase orders based on MRP demand.
Generate purchasing requirements from MRP and validate prior to order placement.
Ensure all purchase orders are accurate, including pricing, terms, and delivery dates.
Receive and review order acknowledgements, updating the system where required.
Ensure all purchase orders are delivered on time and take action to expedite late orders.
Monitor purchasing data in SAP and maintain accurate system records.
Provide timely updates to Materials Planning, Production, and key stakeholders regarding delivery schedules.
Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships.
Negotiate pricing, terms, and agreements to achieve best value for goods and services.
Identify and develop new suppliers to strengthen supply chain resilience.
Drive cost reduction initiatives, including low-cost country sourcing where appropriate.
Resolve supplier issues including delivery delays, quality concerns, and discrepancies.
Prepare debit notes and manage supplier returns where necessary.
Support optimisation of inventory levels to meet business objectives.
Provide accurate and data-driven insight to support purchasing decisions.
Seek and implement continuous improvement opportunities across procurement processes.
Provide guidance and support to the purchasing team on complex issues and escalations.
Review and validate purchase orders raised by team members where required.
Lead by example and promote adherence to company policies and procedures.
Support the Operations Manager in achieving departmental goals and objectives.
Undertake additional duties as required.
Skills and Experience Requirements
To perform this role successfully, the individual must be able to carry out each duty effectively. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and experience required.
Proven experience in a Senior Buyer or similar role.
Strong manufacturing or engineering background.
Experienced in using SAP and MRP systems.
Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
Commercial awareness with a focus on cost reduction and value.
Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to build effective relationships internally and externally.
CIPS qualification (desirable).
Understanding of engineering drawings (advantageous).
Import and customs knowledge (advantageous).
