Senior C++ Backend Engineer. High-Performance Data Streaming

Summary

Build a high-performance C++ service that streams large scientific datasets over HTTP/3 and QUIC, integrating with object storage and optimizing memory and throughput.

We are looking for a senior C++ engineer to build a high-performance service for streaming large scientific and engineering datasets.
This is not a conventional CRUD backend role. You will work on asynchronous networking, HTTP/3 and QUIC, object-storage range reads, binary data transfer, native library integration, request scheduling, and bounded-memory data pipelines.

What you will do
Design and implement the data-streaming service in modern C++.
Build persistent HTTP/3 and QUIC-based client-server communication.
Stream selected regions of large datasets without downloading complete files.
Integrate with S3-compatible object storage and native data-processing libraries.
Implement asynchronous request scheduling, prioritisation, cancellation, retries, caching, and backpressure.
Design stable binary and JSON interfaces between independently developed components.
Implement token-based authentication and fine-grained access control.
Optimise memory allocation, copying, concurrency, and end-to-end throughput.
Add metrics, tracing, load testing, and failure recovery.
Collaborate with visualisation, machine-learning, backend, and systems engineers.

What we are looking for
Strong production experience with modern C++17/20.
Experience building high-throughput, low-latency, or data-intensive systems.
Strong understanding of asynchronous and concurrent programming.
Good knowledge of networking, HTTP, TLS, and binary protocols.
Experience with streaming I/O, byte-range access, buffering, caching, and memory management.
Practical knowledge of S3, MinIO, Ceph, or similar object-storage systems.
Strong debugging, profiling, and performance-optimisation skills.
Experience designing reliable APIs and component boundaries.
Familiarity with Linux systems programming and production service operation.

Nice to have
Experience with HTTP/3, QUIC, WebTransport, or high-performance RPC.
Experience with zero-copy or low-copy data paths.
Experience integrating C++ libraries with Python
Familiarity with CUDA or GPU-oriented data pipelines.
Background in distributed storage, databases, CDNs, filesystems, media streaming, HPC, or scientific visualisation.
Experience with OAuth, OIDC, JWT, and capability-based access.
Knowledge of Kubernetes and OpenTelemetry.
