Senior C++ Software Engineer (low latency trading)
Summary
Senior C++ engineer designing, optimizing, and supporting low-latency exchange-connectivity and algorithmic trading components for major European venues, owning the full lifecycle through L3 production support. Core stack: modern C++ on Linux, Python test automation, Git/CI-CD, Ansible, and AI-assisted development tools.
Project description
The project focuses on global client connectivity trading systems, including A4, A4FIX, FIXAJ, and BlueDirect. The team is undertaking a multi-year initiative to modernize existing connectivity platforms, enhance system performance, introduce new functionality, and address evolving market regulatory requirements. The project operates in a global environment, bringing together technical and business stakeholders to solve complex challenges and make architectural decisions.
Responsibilities
- - Design, develop, and optimize low-latency C++ components for exchange connectivity and algorithmic trading platforms supporting major European trading venues. - Deliver software across the full development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, solution design, feature development, automated testing, deployment, and production support. - Develop secure, reliable, and high-quality solutions that meet both functional and non-functional requirements, as well as applicable compliance standards. - Build monitoring and observability into solutions, monitor production health, provide Level 3 (L3) support, investigate incidents, and address root causes and technical risks. - Apply DevOps and continuous delivery practices to improve development, testing, release, and operational processes. - Use AI-assisted development tools, including GitHub Copilot, and contribute to automating repetitive engineering workflows through MCP-based integrations. - Collaborate with developers, analysts, and business stakeholders across global teams to deliver technical and client-driven initiatives.
SKILLS
Must have
- - Strong experience with modern C++ (C++14/17 or later), with solid knowledge of multithreading, memory management, data structures, and algorithmic complexity. - Strong Linux development experience, including tools such as gdb, perf, and strace, as well as shell scripting. - Experience developing and maintaining C++ unit tests and working with test automation frameworks such as Robot Framework. - Working knowledge of Python for test automation, development tooling, or scripting. - Proficiency with Git-based development workflows and CI/CD pipelines, with familiarity with Ansible for configuration management. - Experience providing Level 3 (L3) production support for mission-critical systems, including incident triage, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis. - Experience using AI coding assistants, such as GitHub Copilot, as part of the day-to-day software development workflow.
Nice to have
- Experience with C++20 is an advantage. - Previous experience with exchange connectivity, smart order routing, or execution algorithms. - Knowledge of low-latency optimization techniques, including lock-free data structures, kernel bypass technologies such as DPDK or Solarflare, cache-aware design, and NUMA tuning. - Experience with performance analysis and optimization tools, including perf, Intel VTune, flame graphs, and micro-benchmarking frameworks such as Google Benchmark. - Strong hardware awareness, including an understanding of CPU caches, branch prediction, memory hierarchy, network interface cards (NICs), and their impact on software design and performance. - Experience with financial messaging and exchange protocols, such as FIX, ITCH, OUCH, or native exchange APIs. - Experience building or integrating MCP servers, or using AI tooling to automate software engineering and developer workflows. - Familiarity with monitoring, observability, and network analysis tools, such as Corvil, Geneos, and PCAP analysis.
