Senior Chartered Structural Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Independently manage structural and civil engineering projects from concept through to completion.
• Lead the design of residential, commercial, industrial, healthcare and educational projects.
• Undertake Design Certifier and/or Assigned Certifier duties under BCAR, where required.
• Prepare and review structural calculations, reports, specifications and technical documentation.
• Design steel, reinforced concrete, timber, masonry and foundation systems.
• Manage civil engineering elements including drainage, roads, site development and infrastructure works.
• Carry out regular site inspections, identify technical issues and provide appropriate engineering solutions.
• Review and approve designs prepared by engineers and technicians.
• Liaise directly with clients, architects, contractors, local authorities and multidisciplinary design teams.
• Lead project meetings and design reviews.
• Ensure compliance with Irish Building Regulations, BCAR, Eurocodes and relevant Irish engineering standards.
• Manage project programmes, resources and technical deliverables.
• Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians.
• Contribute to ongoing client relationship management and business development.

Essential Requirements

• Existing right to work in Ireland.
• Level 8 Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer status through Engineers Ireland or an equivalent recognised professional body.
• Minimum 8 to 10 years' post-graduate engineering experience, with substantial experience gained within the Irish consulting engineering sector.
• Demonstrable experience independently managing multiple projects within an Irish engineering consultancy environment.
• Broad structural engineering experience across a variety of building and project types.
• Strong design experience covering steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, timber and foundation systems.
• Strong practical knowledge of BCAR and the Irish Building Regulations.
• Previous experience acting as a Design Certifier and/or Assigned Certifier under BCAR.
• Demonstrable experience undertaking site inspections and managing projects through the construction stage.
• Strong client-facing experience, including managing client relationships and providing technical advice directly to clients.
• Experience in drainage, site development and infrastructure design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and relevant structural design software. Revit experience is advantageous.
• Excellent English communication, technical report-writing and presentation skills.
• Full driving licence.
• Strong project management, leadership and commercial awareness.
