Senior Civil Site Designer
Benesch is seeking a Senior Civil Site Designer to join our growing Civil Site and Land Development team in Franklin or Nashville, Tennessee. In this role, you will contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of a variety of civil site and land development projects while working closely with engineers, project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams. This is an opportunity for an experienced designer to take ownership of complex design assignments, apply strong technical expertise, and play an important role in delivering high-quality projects for our clients.
The ideal candidate is an experienced Civil Designer who is confident working independently, enjoys solving complex design challenges, and is looking for an opportunity to take on greater responsibility. You will have the opportunity to work on diverse projects, collaborate with experienced professionals, mentor developing designers, and continue building your technical expertise in a collaborative environment.
Location
This position offers a hybrid work schedule and can be based out of either our Franklin or Nashville, Tennessee, office.
The Impact You Will Have
- Lead the development and production of civil site and land development plans for a variety of projects.
- Perform and oversee site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility design, erosion control, and related civil design activities.
- Develop detailed design plans, profiles, details, specifications, technical documentation, calculations, and construction documents.
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to develop, analyze, and produce high-quality civil design plans and project deliverables.
- Review design plans and deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, quality, and compliance with applicable standards and requirements.
- Identify design challenges and develop practical, cost-effective solutions that support project schedules, budgets, and client needs.
- Coordinate civil design efforts with project managers, engineers, surveyors, architects, landscape architects, contractors, and other disciplines.
- Participate in project meetings, client coordination, site visits, and construction-related activities as needed.
- Support projects through construction by responding to contractor questions, reviewing submittals, and providing design clarification.
- Assist with project scoping, fee development, schedules, and resource planning as needed.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior and developing designers.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of civil design standards, processes, and best practices.
- Manage multiple project assignments and deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail.
- Take ownership of assigned design deliverables and contribute to successful project delivery from initial concept through construction.
What We Are Looking For
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive civil site design experience, preferably within a consulting engineering environment.
- Strong experience with civil site and land development design, including site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater management, and erosion control.
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, applicable codes, standards, and permitting requirements.
- Experience preparing and reviewing civil construction documents, plans, profiles, details, and technical documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage design assignments and deliver high-quality work within established schedules and budgets.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify design issues and develop practical solutions.
- Experience coordinating with engineers, project managers, clients, and other project stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship to developing designers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Progress toward Professional Engineering licensure is a plus.
