Why this role matters

The Guardians run their technology predominantly in the Microsoft cloud. This role sits at the centre of it.

You'll join the Cloud Operations function within Technology Operations, reporting to the Platform Lead, Cloud and Infrastructure. You'll be the key point of contact for IaaS, PaaS and SaaS services in Azure, and you'll shape how the cloud environment is designed, secured, governed and optimised as the organisation grows.

This isn't a pure build-and-run role, and it isn't purely strategic either. It's for a senior engineer who is still hands-on in Azure and who also wants a say in strategy, governance and how the team develops.

What you'll do

• Lead the design and implementation of Azure solutions with scalability, reliability, security and cost-effectiveness in mind
• Provision, manage, monitor and decommission servers and services across Azure
• Ensure best practice across cloud security and identity management, and contribute to the Guardians' cloud and security strategies
• Establish and enforce cloud governance, including access controls, resource tagging, budget management and regulatory compliance
• Find ways to optimise infrastructure and costs through automation, performance tuning and solution improvements
• Lead incident response during critical outages or security events, coordinating across teams to resolve issues fast
• Manage cloud service providers and technology partners to keep them aligned with business goals and SLAs
• Mentor and guide junior cloud engineers, building a culture of continuous learning and improvement

What you bring

• 5–10+ years in IT, with a significant focus on cloud technologies
• Extensive hands-on experience in Microsoft Azure
• Strong Infrastructure as Code skills and advanced cloud security capability
• Experience designing self-healing, fault-tolerant services, and an understanding of stateless, loosely coupled distributed applications
• Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases and with messaging and queuing services
• The ability to explain technical ideas in clear, business-friendly language, with a customer-service mindset and a track record of delivering against SLAs
• A collaborative, constructive approach and the ability to build strong relationships inside and outside the organisation
