Senior Cloud Engineer
Description
Salary: $170,000 + Superannuation
Senior Cloud Engineer | Australian SaaS Fintech
An established Australian SaaS fintech to recruit a Senior Cloud Engineer who will play a key role in the evolution of its cloud infrastructure.
The business operates a SaaS platform supported by a hybrid infrastructure environment, with a longer-term move towards operating entirely in the cloud. This creates an opportunity for an experienced engineer to help shape that transition, drawing on previous migration experience to make sound architectural decisions and deliver improvements that support the platform’s future.
Alongside this transformation, you’ll help ensure the infrastructure supporting the platform remains secure, reliable, scalable and cost-effective. It’s a hands-on position with scope to influence technical direction, strengthen engineering practices and take ownership of complex infrastructure initiatives.
The opportunity:
Reporting directly to the Cloud Infrastructure Manager, you’ll work closely with engineering teams to translate product and technical requirements into resilient cloud infrastructure.
Your manager brings first-hand experience of cloud migration within a large-scale technology environment and values engineers who understand the practical challenges involved. Experience navigating a similar transition, particularly within a SaaS or product-led business, will be highly regarded.
You’ll balance longer-term infrastructure improvements with the operational needs of a live platform. That means understanding dependencies, communicating trade-offs and delivering change carefully, while continually improving the tools and processes that help engineering teams work effectively.
What you’ll be doing:
- Building and improving AWS infrastructure: Design and operate secure, scalable cloud environments, including production Kubernetes workloads on Amazon EKS.
- Delivering infrastructure migrations: Help plan and execute the transition from hybrid infrastructure towards a fully cloud-based environment, managing technical dependencies and production readiness.
- Strengthening infrastructure as code: Develop reusable, maintainable infrastructure through Terraform, CloudFormation or similar tools.
- Improving software delivery: Enhance CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation and container build and release processes to support predictable, secure releases.
- Increasing operational resilience: Improve observability, incident response, backup, disaster recovery and capacity planning.
- Embedding security into delivery: Strengthen identity and access controls, secrets management, vulnerability scanning, patching and container image security.
- Optimising performance and cost: Identify opportunities to improve resource utilisation and cloud efficiency while maintaining reliability.
- Supporting engineering capability: Provide practical technical guidance, mentor engineers and contribute to standards that make infrastructure easier to operate and maintain.
What you’ll bring:
You’ll have significant experience designing and operating production cloud infrastructure, ideally within a SaaS or product engineering environment. You’ll understand the expectations that come with supporting a live customer-facing platform and bring a considered approach to availability, security and change.
Previous experience taking an organisation through a hybrid-to-cloud migration would be particularly valuable. A background supporting infrastructure at significant scale will also be well regarded, especially where you’ve helped manage complexity while keeping services stable.
Your technical experience should include:
- Deep practical knowledge of AWS services and cloud architecture.
- Production Kubernetes experience, preferably with Amazon EKS, including upgrades, scaling, troubleshooting and availability.
- Strong infrastructure-as-code and automation capability.
- Experience designing or improving CI/CD pipelines and secure container delivery processes.
- A sound understanding of cloud networking, infrastructure security and operational resilience.
- Linux administration and scripting or programming skills.
Beyond the technical experience, you’ll be comfortable owning work from design through implementation, explaining your decisions and collaborating across engineering teams. You’ll bring the judgement to recognise where a practical improvement can make a meaningful difference and the follow-through to deliver it.
Why consider this role?
This is an opportunity to combine substantial cloud migration work with ongoing responsibility for a production SaaS platform. You’ll contribute to decisions that shape the future environment, work with a manager who understands transformation at scale and help strengthen the engineering practices supporting the business.
The role offers hybrid working, with two to three days in the office and the remaining days working remotely.
