Overview

Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure, responsible for delivering global online services with security, compliance, operational excellence, and smart growth. Within CO+I, the EMEA Data Centre Delivery (DCD) team leads endtoend EPC delivery of Microsoft data centres across the region.

We are seeking a passionate, high energy Senior Construction Manager to help build and deliver the infrastructure that powers some of the world’s largest online services. As a Senior Construction Manager, you are responsible for driving safe, high quality, predictable, and efficient delivery across all assigned projects. You will set clear and ambitious goals, ensure alignment with EPC regional OKRs and DCEP schedules, and proactively identify and mitigate risks. The CM manages the full project lifecycle—from early due diligence and RFP processes through construction, commissioning, and handover. You will partner with key internal groups including Real Estate, Design Engineering, Procurement, Finance, Global Supply Chain, Site Due Diligence, and Live Operations.

The CM serves as Microsoft’s Employer’s Representative, overseeing the construction of the shell, MEP fitout, testing, and IT fitout for one or more data centre projects on a campus. This position requires strong communication skills, technical depth in data centre design and construction, and the ability to lead in a fastpaced, highly technical environment.

This role is based near Vaasa or Helsinki, Finland, and relocation support is provided. Candidates must reside within 50 km of the Data Centre site.



Responsibilities
  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of large-scale data center construction projects, from site due diligence and planning through execution and closeout.
  • Partner with engineering, operations, cost management, and construction teams to develop delivery strategies, manage project risks, and ensure successful outcomes.
  • Drive safety, quality, and compliance across campus projects, fostering a strong safety culture and ensuring adherence to regulatory and Microsoft standards.
  • Manage project schedules, resources, and critical milestones, implementing mitigation and acceleration plans to maintain predictable delivery performance.
  • Oversee contractor, vendor, and stakeholder engagement, including procurement activities, commercial management, and performance accountability.
  • Lead and develop project management teams, providing coaching, goal setting, performance management, and delivery oversight across multiple projects.
  • Monitor project financials, reporting, and governance, ensuring effective budget management, change control, forecasting, and data-driven decision making.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or an equivalent engineering science OR significant related senior construction management experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Solid experience in construction management of large, complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) plants. (Directly managing contract range between 150million – 300million Euros)
  • Significant experience directly managing, mentoring, leading, and coaching construction management and/or commissioning professionals.
  • Solid experience in hiring, promoting, disciplining, and developing teams of professional construction/engineering staffs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Noteworthy recent experience delivering full life cycle hyperscale Data Centre projects
  • Strong detailed understanding of electrical and mechanical principle to actively support vendors, contractors and other teams involved in the construction and commissioning of various systems such as; High, Medium and low voltage power systems, Generators, Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS’s), Air Conditioning HVAC, Exhaust Fans, Chilled Water Systems, Building Management systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), Testing and balancing and Pumps and Hydronic systems, Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS’s) and Transformers.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of change / incident management.
  • Capability to review component submittal packages, understand requirements for Factory Witness Testing (FWT)
  • General contractor and vendor management experience (request for proposals, bidding, change orders) associated with construction and project execution
  • Strong demonstrated leadership in driving and ensuring compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements
