Senior Consultant - financial modelling and economic analysis

We are seeking an experienced Senior Consultant with expertise in financial modelling and economic analysis to support high-profile advisory and transaction assignments across a broad range of real asset sectors.
The role involves working at the intersection of financial analysis, commercial insight, and operational understanding, supporting clients in evaluating investment opportunities, assessing risks, and developing robust forward-looking projections, while also providing exposure to a broader range of infrastructure sectors, including energy, transport and social infrastructure, across high-profile investment transactions and strategic advisory mandates
Financial Modelling & Analysis
- Developing, reviewing, and maintaining robust, auditable financial models (project finance, asset-level, and portfolio models).
- Analysing key value drivers, including:
- Revenue, demand, and utilisation dynamics
- Capex (initial, expansion, lifecycle) and cost phasing
- Operating cost structures and performance benchmarks
- Performing investment appraisal and returns analysis (IRR, NPV, payback, and where relevant lender metrics such as DSCR).
- Designing and executing scenario and sensitivity analysis to assess downside resilience and upside potential.
Economic & Market Analysis
- Undertaking macro, sectoral, and market analysis, including:
- Demand drivers (economic growth, demographics, industry trends)
- Competitive positioning and benchmarking
- Regulatory and policy considerations (as applicable)
- Translating economic and demand insights into quantitative modelling assumptions.
Transaction & Strategic Advisory
- Supporting the delivery of technical and commercial due diligence assignments from a financial and economic perspective.
- Reviewing business plans and financial projections prepared by sponsors or operators, including:
- Revenue and demand assumptions
- Capex programmes and lifecycle requirements
- Operating strategies and cost forecasts
- Identifying key risks, gaps, and inconsistencies, and providing independent views on the robustness of underlying assumptions.
- Providing technical and commercial input into bids and pursuits, shaping competitive proposals through robust asset and demand insights to strengthen proposals.
- Supporting development and refinement of investment cases, financial projections, and strategic plans.
- Reviewing data room materials and financial models, ensuring consistency between technical, commercial, and financial inputs.
- Preparing clear, client-ready outputs, articulating key risks, sensitivities, and value drivers to support decision-making.
- Working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment between technical assumptions and financial outputs.
OUR TEAM
The Investment and Transaction Advisory team has a strong track record of supporting clients at the early stage of projects such as feasibility plans, market forecasts as well as technical assessment of complex projects. As part of the GCC delivery team, the role supports opportunities and projects across Europe, Asia and North America. Our key clients cover a wide range of different organisations in the private and public sectors. Key clients include financial institutions (pension funds, investors and financiers), operators (utilities, ports, rail and mobility) and energy industry.
We are expanding from a strong transport base into new sectors, including industrial clients, major government programmes (e.g. Port Infrastructure Fund, UK Freeports), mobility, and energy infrastructure. WSP has a global network of over 10,500 advisory professionals and 80,000 employees across technical, sustainability and advisory disciplines, enabling our front-end consultancy to draw on deep expertise across transaction advisory (including PPP), investment advisory, market studies, demand forecasting, feasibility studies, and management consultancy.
WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE
- Relevant experience in:
- Infrastructure / investment advisory
- Project finance / financial advisory
- Consulting or transaction environments
- Strong expertise in financial modelling, including:
- Project finance / cash flow models
- Model review and validation
- Experience in reviewing and challenging financial projections and underlying assumptions.
- Exposure to multiple sectors / asset classes (sector-agnostic profile preferred).
- Strong understanding of:
- Revenue and cost drivers
- Lifecycle capex and operating models
- Investment appraisal methodologies
- Experience in economic and market analysis supporting investment decisions.
- Advanced Excel capability with strong focus on model transparency, auditability, and flexibility.
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and deliver under tight timelines.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analysis into clear insights for investors and lenders.
