Technopolis Group is looking to grow its data science team. We are now looking to recruit a motivated and experienced specialist to join our Brussels team as a Senior Consultant.

The team
The selected person will be part of the Technopolis Group Data Science Unit (DSU), whose members work in different country offices. The growing team of DSU data scientists have diversified academic backgrounds but a shared passion for developing data science applications to improve policymaking. The unit works in policy consulting jobs for our clients but also conducts R&D to develop new, untested and exciting applications, potentially in collaboration with internal and external partners.

Examples include record linkage, building classifiers, semantic and sentiment analysis, web scraping and dynamic visualisations. Additionally, the team is looking forward to expanding its portfolio of techniques using real-time indicators, causal AI and generative AI. Experience in these last techniques, or a general understanding of their functioning combined with a demonstrable willingness to master them, is highly desirable.

Main tasks
The typical tasks of the Senior Consultant in data science are:
  • Leading the design and implementation of suitable data science methodologies
  • Perform analyses to answer policy questions leveraging R, Python and other programming and data science tools
  • Write own code to perform analyses
  • Extract and transform data from multiple sources, and develop processes for data cleaning, integration, and validation
  • Develop dashboards using visualization tools such as Tableau / PowerBI to communicate findings
  • Report on the findings and present to clients

Experience and skills
Applicants suitable for a Senior Consultant in data science position should have:
  • Master’s Degree in data science, Computer Science or related subjects
  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in a consulting or research environment in data science
  • Proficient in R and Python
  • Experience with NLP and text knowledge extraction
  • Knowledge and interest in Machine Learning methods including classification, clustering and predictive modelling
  • Hands-on experience using Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) programmatically through APIs, including their integration into automated data processing, text analysis and knowledge-extraction pipelines
  • A very good knowledge of economics and statistics, together with familiarity with business, industrial and innovation-related data, is essential to ensure analytical outputs are interpreted and communicated in a policy-relevant way.
  • Proven experience in designing composite indicators and scoreboards and hands-on knowledge of the COINr package, is a major asset.
  • Knowledge of various open data sources, the collaborative platform Github, database consolidation and processing and web scraping
  • A general overview of the Science Technology and Innovation domain and proven track in working together with policymakers in this area is desirable
  • Applicants should have good communication skills and be able to work in an international and multicultural environment
