Senior Consultant (Social and Human Rights)

Job Description
As a Senior Consultant at ESC, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality environmental and social consultancy services across Asia. Reporting to the Principal Consultant, you will lead complex Environmental & Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs), baseline and feasibility studies, management plan development, and Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD)assignments for corporate and institutional clients.
In this role, you will balance strong project management, high-quality deliverables, and constructive stakeholder engagement with business development and junior team mentorship.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of human rights advisory and social risk impact assessments, translating international human rights standards and social safeguards into actionable client strategies.
- Support comprehensive Environmental & Social (E&S) assessments while ensuring alignment with regulatory and international frameworks (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, UNGPs).
- Develop robust survey and sampling methodologies; oversee field surveys and data collection when required.
- Monitor and analyse evolving legal frameworks and market shifts around Business and Human Rights (BHR) to provide strategic insights for clients and internal stakeholders.
- Independently manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery, budget control, and top-tier output quality.
- Author, review, and finalise technical reports, client presentations, and regulatory submissions.
- Liaise with clients, authorities, donors, and local stakeholders to navigate planning and approval processes; facilitate workshops, consultations, and technical discussions.
- Guide and mentor Consultants and Associate Consultants, fostering technical skill development, team coordination, and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to proposals, Expressions of Interest (EOIs), pricing strategies, and pipeline development to support client growth across the region.
- Partner with multidisciplinary and regional teams to deliver seamless cross-border solutions.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Rights, Social Sciences, Political Science, International Development, Public Policy, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree is advantageous.
- 5–8 years of professional experience in Business & Human Rights (BHR), sustainability consulting, or international development. Prior experience within a management or environmental consultancy is strongly preferred.
- Deep understanding of international human rights law, emerging HRDD legislation, regulatory frameworks, and international environmental/social safeguards.
- Proven track record in project management, analytical problem-solving, and technical report writing.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite. Familiarity with GIS, spatial analysis, or environmental modelling tools is an advantage.
- Full professional proficiency or native fluency in one or more of the following: Bahasa (Indonesian/Malay), Vietnamese, Tagalog, Thai, or Mandarin. Excellent written and spoken English is required.
- Strong professional integrity with a proven ability to collaborate effectively across diverse culture, technical discipline, and regional boundaries.
