Senior Country Manager
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Country Manager based in India.
This is a senior leadership opportunity focused on regulatory affairs, compliance, strategic partnerships, and country-level operations within the fintech sector. You will shape the regulatory engagement strategy for India while building trusted relationships with financial institutions, Credit Information Companies, and regulators. The role combines strategic leadership with a strong understanding of the technical and operational aspects of data-driven financial products. You will serve as a key bridge between India-based operations and global executive leadership, translating complex regulatory requirements into practical business guidance. With significant autonomy and visibility, you will influence partnerships, product decisions, governance, and the organization’s growth strategy in India. You will also lead a local compliance function and help build a strong, high-performing culture across the country operation.
Accountabilities:
- Develop and execute the regulatory engagement strategy for India, aligned with business objectives and the evolving fintech regulatory landscape.
- Monitor regulatory developments affecting Credit Information Companies, fintech businesses, data usage, and data localization, and advise senior leadership on potential business implications.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with financial regulators, Credit Information Companies, financial institutions, and other key industry stakeholders.
- Lead regulatory and partner discussions involving data access, compliance requirements, partnership structures, and emerging business opportunities.
- Serve as a credible technical and regulatory voice in external discussions, with the ability to clearly explain data retrieval architecture, consent flows, API integrations, data handling, and related product mechanics.
- Develop a strong understanding of how data moves, is stored, accessed, and shared within the technology environment and communicate these concepts accurately to regulators, partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Lead responses to regulatory inquiries, examinations, and partner requests, including strategic positioning, documentation, and communication.
- Represent the organization at industry forums, regulatory consultations, policy discussions, and relevant external events.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration and innovation with Credit Information Companies and financial institutions.
- Lead and mentor the India-based compliance team, setting priorities, allocating resources, and providing guidance on complex regulatory matters.
- Build a high-performing compliance culture and support employee development, performance management, and professional growth.
- Act as the strategic compliance bridge between India operations and global headquarters, ensuring strong communication and alignment across regions.
- Partner with senior stakeholders across finance, compliance, legal, information security, partnerships, and other functions.
- Provide regulatory and compliance guidance on business strategy, new products, partnerships, and operational decisions.
- Translate complex regulatory requirements into practical, business-friendly guidance for operational and technical teams.
- Oversee governance and operational requirements for the India entity, including policies, procedures, documentation, and compliance frameworks.
- Oversee regulatory filings, licenses, reporting obligations, and other country-level compliance requirements.
- Ensure appropriate governance structures are maintained and that India operations remain aligned with applicable regulatory and corporate standards.
- 12+ years of professional experience in compliance, regulatory affairs, risk, or a related function within financial services, fintech, or a similarly regulated industry.
- Bachelor's degree required; an advanced qualification such as an MBA, LLB, or equivalent is preferred.
- Proven experience managing senior-level relationships with regulators, financial institutions, strategic partners, or other external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership and people-management experience, ideally managing compliance or regulatory teams.
- Direct experience working with a Credit Information Company and/or fintech organization is strongly preferred.
- Strong track record navigating complex regulatory environments and developing productive stakeholder relationships.
- Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to explain complex compliance and technical concepts to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
- Strong executive presence and confidence representing an organization in high-stakes regulatory, partner, and industry discussions.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical business strategies and opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and accurately articulate the technical architecture of data-driven or fintech products, including data flows, storage, integrations, consent mechanisms, and data-sharing processes.
- Comfortable engaging directly with engineering, technology, and information security teams to understand technical systems sufficiently to represent and defend them in external conversations.
- Strong judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities, particularly when operating in ambiguous or rapidly evolving regulatory environments.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and relationship-building capabilities.
- Ability to operate independently and effectively within an asynchronous, cross-time-zone environment.
- Proficiency with MacOS, Google Workspace, Slack, project management platforms, Zoom, and other modern collaboration tools.
