Senior Credit Risk Analyst – Oil Trading

The Role

The Credit Risk Specialist is responsible for assessing, monitoring, and managing counterparty credit risk arising from physical and paper oil trading activities. This role supports trading, commercial, and finance teams by ensuring that credit exposure is identified, controlled, and aligned with the firm’s risk appetite.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess the creditworthiness of counterparties including oil producers, refiners, traders, shipping companies, and financial institutions
  • Establish and recommend credit limits based on financial analysis, market conditions, and counterparty risk profiles
  • Monitor daily credit exposure across physical and derivatives trading portfolios
  • Review financial statements, credit reports, and market intelligence to identify emerging risks
  • Prepare credit risk reports and present findings to senior management and credit committees
  • Work closely with traders to structure transactions within approved credit limits
  • Respond to market volatility and stress events by reassessing exposure and limits

Requirements:

  • Bachelors’ degree in a related field
  • At least 5 years of Credit Risk experience in an Oil Trading Firm
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM) are a plus
  • Ability to manage and work with regional stakeholders
