Hybrid role- candidates must be able to interview in person and go onsite for three days a week
Rate: $80-$90/hour
H1B's accepted but must be willing to convert to full time after contract expiration.
The Planet Group has partnered with a Dallas area company to locate an experienced Senior Data Architect to help shape and deliver modern enterprise data platforms supporting analytics, reporting, AI/ML, and business decision-making.
This is an opportunity for an architect who enjoys staying close to the technology. You'll combine enterprise-level architecture and technical strategy with hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Databricks, Spark/PySpark, modern Lakehouse architecture, and data engineering.
You'll partner with engineering, analytics, data science, and business teams to design scalable data solutions, establish architecture standards, and provide technical leadership across the organization.

You'll partner with engineering, analytics, data science, and business teams to design scalable data solutions, establish architecture standards, and provide technical leadership across the organization.
What You'll Do
- Design scalable enterprise data architectures, data platforms, warehouses, and Lakehouse solutions using Microsoft Azure and Databricks.
- Develop and guide conceptual, logical, physical, and dimensional data models supporting analytics, reporting, and operational applications.
- Design modern Lakehouse architectures, including Delta Lake and Medallion architecture patterns.
- Define scalable ETL/ELT and data integration architectures utilizing Apache Spark, PySpark, SQL, and modern cloud technologies.
- Architect batch, real-time, API-based, and event-driven data integration solutions.
- Establish architecture standards and best practices for data governance, quality, metadata management, lineage, and master data management.
- Partner with engineering teams to improve data platform performance, scalability, security, and reliability.
- Establish architecture best practices around CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for data platforms.
- Collaborate with analytics and data science teams to design data architectures supporting AI/ML and advanced analytics.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data engineering and development teams.
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to translate complex requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and help shape the future enterprise data architecture roadmap.
- 8+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, data warehousing, or related data platform roles.
- 5+ years designing and implementing cloud-based data platforms, preferably within Microsoft Azure.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, and Lakehouse architecture.
- Strong hands-on experience with Apache Spark and PySpark for distributed data processing.
- Strong data modeling experience, including dimensional modeling and star/snowflake schemas.
- Advanced SQL skills and strong knowledge of ETL/ELT architecture and enterprise data integration.
- Experience with data governance, metadata management, data quality, lineage, and/or MDM.
- Experience designing real-time, event-driven, and API-based data integrations.
- Strong understanding of data security, privacy, and enterprise architecture standards.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership while remaining close to the technology.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
- CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code experience for modern data platforms.
- Experience with Terraform or similar IaC technologies.
- Experience designing data architectures supporting AI/ML and advanced analytics.
- Master's degree in a related technical discipline.
