Senior Network Engineer
Job Description:
· Provide support for current and future enterprise systems
· Adherence to the administration of SMC Global IT security policies, procedures, best practices and established standards
· Participate in and optimize IT infrastructure implementations, forecasting and maintenance
· Implement and maintain network hardware based on the IT initiatives and required upgrade project with SMC
· Provide management with ways to improve administration, monitoring, reporting and standard operating procedures
· Design, plan, install. review and evaluate wired and wireless network infrastructure
· Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with all departments to optimize communications and exchange of pertinent information
· Troubleshoot network systems including any reported routing or switching problems and recommend improvements required to enhance performance
· Coordinate, implement or maintain router and switch hardware and configurations within the enterprise
· Manage current infrastructure equipment inventory levels to keep equipment up to date with current IOS levels and required Enterprise functionalities
· Provide network monitoring services utilizing various network management tools
· Coordinate with vendors and customers to minimize and/or plan downtime
· Follow Global IT change management and configuration management processes
· Maintain a current level of technical knowledge and/or certification on enterprise routing and switching technologies
· Provide tactical and strategic input for overall network planning and related projects to include utilization of technology for cost savings or enhanced productivity in SMC
· Work with customers to assist with network capacity and high availability requirements
· Ensure accuracy of the information in DNS and IP databases
Job Requirements:
· Associate degree or work experience with industry leading certifications
· Preferably at least 5 years of relevant experience working in a large enterprise network environment including a multi-protocol network, problem resolutions, extensive knowledge of the OSI model, familiarity with industry leading network hardware, network management services, proactive monitoring and performance reporting
· Experience with various network monitoring tools and methodologies
· Mastery of advanced networking technologies and solutions including but not limited to BGP, extensible LAN, virtual route forwarding, virtual device contexts, policy-based routing, ether-channel, QoS, traffic-shaping, load balancing, VPN tunnels, WAN Optimization, SDWAN, firewalls, subnetting, VLANs, STP, Spine and Leaf architecture, packet captures, etc.
· Strong working knowledge of structured cabling systems, network facilities, electrical requirements, UPS, etc.
· Ability to travel abroad
