Senior Data Center Technician
Summary
Daily hands-on role deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting high-density AI compute hardware in data centers, including racking, cabling, and validating servers, GPUs, and network gear.
About us
Gimlet is building the first multi-silicon neocloud designed for fast, efficient AI inference.
We combine large-scale compute infrastructure with an execution platform that partitions AI workloads and maps each stage to the hardware best suited to run it.
We work with foundation labs, hyperscalers, and AI-native companies, giving our team access to technical problems spanning frontier models, production infrastructure, and emerging hardware.
About the role
Gimlet Labs is seeking Data Center Technicians to support daily data center operations; hardware deployments, and site bring-ups across Gimlet's growing infrastructure footprint. These roles are hands-on positions for people closest to the physical systems that power Gimlet's AI infrastructure.
You will rack, stack, cable, label, validate, troubleshoot, repair, document, and maintain high density compute infrastructure. You will work closely with Site Managers, Deployment Leads, Network Deployment Engineers, Logistics, vendors, and remote-hands teams to keep capacity moving from planned to production-ready.
This role is well-suited for a hands-on technician who takes pride in physical quality, moves with urgency, documents clearly, and wants to grow with a fast-scaling infrastructure team.
What you will work on
Execute rack, stack, cable, labeling, hardware deployment, site expansion, and audit work for current and future Gimlet sites.
Troubleshoot servers, GPUs, storage, network links, optics, cabling, BMC/IPMI, firmware, and Linux-based systems.
Perform break/fix work, component swaps, RMA support, hands-on testing, ticket closure, and operational maintenance.
Maintain accurate asset records, rack elevations, cabling documentation, inventory records, spares tracking, and site notes.
Support network turn-ups and validation work with Network Deployment Engineers, including optics, cabling paths, patching, and interface checks.
Follow runbooks, checklists, safety practices, and data center procedures while helping improve them as the environment scales.
Communicate status, blockers, risks, and completion evidence clearly to site leadership and deployment teams.
Participate in maintenance windows, urgent site work, and on-call or escalation coverage as needed.
You may be a good fit if you have
Hands-on experience in data center, IT hardware, lab, field service, or infrastructure operations
Experience with servers, racks, PDUs, copper and fiber cabling, optics, and physical deployment standards
The ability to troubleshoot methodically, document findings, and close work with clear evidence
Familiarity with Linux, BMC/IPMI, firmware, BIOS, PXE, or hardware-validation workflows
Strong attention to safety, physical quality, and operational documentation
The ability to work in an active data center and support occasional off-hours maintenance
Strong candidates may also have
Experience with GPU clusters, liquid cooling, HPC, AI infrastructure, or high-density compute
Experience with fiber handling, structured cabling, optics, and network patching
Familiarity with ticketing, asset-management, inventory, DCIM, or CMDB systems
Bash or Python scripting experience for validation, inventory, or operational checks
Familiarity with colocation access, remote-hands workflows, and site-acceptance procedures
