Senior Data Engineer

They are a large enterprise level organisation who are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join a high-performing data team working on enterprise-wide transformation initiatives. This is an opportunity to play a key role in designing and delivering modern cloud-based data solutions while partnering closely with business stakeholders to drive meaningful outcomes.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining hands-on engineering with leadership, stakeholder engagement, and solution design.

Tō tūranga hou | Your new role

• Design, develop and optimise scalable ELT pipelines using modern cloud technologies.
• Build robust data solutions leveraging Azure Databricks, Python, SQL and Spark.
• Lead solution design workshops and whiteboard sessions with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Partner with business teams to understand challenges, gather requirements, and translate them into practical data solutions.
• Contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from design and development through to deployment and support.
• Support critical production environments, troubleshooting and resolving data-related issues where required.
• Implement and enhance CI/CD practices to improve the quality and reliability of data platforms.
• Mentor and coach other Data Engineers, promoting engineering best practices and continuous improvement.
• Work closely with architects, analysts, developers and business leaders on strategic data and analytics initiatives.
• Produce high-quality technical documentation and contribute to engineering standards and governance.

Ngā uara me ngā pūkenga e angitu ai koe | What you'll need to succeed

• Strong experience delivering enterprise-scale data engineering solutions in Azure environments.
• Proven expertise with native Databricks, Python, SQL, Spark and modern ELT frameworks.
• Experience building and supporting cloud-based data platforms and analytics solutions.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, DevOps and CI/CD practices.
• Ability to engage confidently with both technical and business stakeholders.
• Experience facilitating workshops, whiteboard sessions and solution design discussions.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and build credibility across the organisation.
• Experience mentoring junior and intermediate engineers.
• A collaborative approach and passion for helping teams deliver high-quality outcomes.

Location - Can be based in Auckland/ Christchurch
