Senior Data Engineer

As a Senior Data Engineer at Hippo, you lead the delivery of data-driven solutions in a multi-disciplinary team. You will build and scale robust data systems, mentor engineers, and ensure technical excellence across projects for public and private sector clients. You collaborate across data, design, product, and delivery to tackle complex problems and deliver value. You will advocate for data-informed approaches and contribute to Hippo’s culture of agile, human-centred software delivery. This role offers the opportunity to shape scalable data platforms and mentor teams while engaging with diverse stakeholders.

• Lead production of user-centred data software based on business requirements
• Collaborate cross-functionally to design and deliver innovative data solutions
• Maintain and grow client relationships by troubleshooting complex issues
• Design and manage software development and deployment pipelines
• Present prototypes, solutions, and progress to stakeholders clearly
• Build strong team and stakeholder relationships to overcome systemic challenges
• Mentor and coach engineers to support professional development
• Promote Hippo’s Data Herd through blogs, case studies, and workshops

• Excellent experience delivering in Python and another core language
• Strong SQL and relational databases expertise
• Cloud experience (AWS, Azure or GCP)
• Experience with Snowflake and dbt
• Experience with data formats (CSV, JSON, XML)
• Expert in building reliable and scalable data pipelines
• Deep Agile experience
• Proficiency in TDD or BDD
• Strong CI/CD experience
• Experience mentoring others on technical best practices
