Senior Data Engineer (Microsoft Fabric)

Summary

This role involves configuring Microsoft Fabric platforms and building data ingestion and transformation pipelines for clients. The engineer will manage the full delivery lifecycle, including architecture design, governance, and knowledge transfer to client teams.

Jora Malaysia will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Working as part of the delivery team and alongside the client's people, you will stand up and configure the Fabric platform, build the ingestion and transformation pipelines, and take the solution through validation, deployment and knowledge transfer.

This is a delivery-focused, client-facing role for an engineer who combines deep, practical Fabric experience with a strong understanding of the architecture and principles behind it — someone who can both build the platform and explain and defend the design decisions to technical and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provision and configure Microsoft Fabric capacities, workspaces, semantic models and supporting Azure services (e.g. Storage, Key Vault).
  • Deploy the Agile Insights Fabric Admin & Governance Pack and ETL framework to support robust, well-governed data platform operations.
  • Establish secure, reliable connectivity between the data platform and external data sources.
  • Design and implement ingestion pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
  • Develop data transformations across the medallion layers (bronze → silver → gold) to produce scalable, high-quality, business-ready datasets.
  • Manage reference-data integration and ensure alignment across domains.

Validation & governance

  • Support UAT cycles, identifying and resolving data quality and integration issues.
  • Facilitate Change Advisory Board (CAB) endorsement, ensuring architecture and deployment readiness.
  • Deploy solutions into production with proactive monitoring and operational continuity.
  • Produce clear as-built documentation of the data architecture, pipelines and processes.
  • Run knowledge-transfer sessions with the client's team to ensure sustainable, self-sufficient operations.

Requirements

  • Microsoft Fabric — hands-on: proven, hands-on experience delivering production workloads on Microsoft Fabric — OneLake, Lakehouse/Warehouse, Data Factory pipelines, notebooks/Spark, semantic models and Direct Lake.
  • Microsoft Fabric — theoretical: strong understanding of Fabric architecture, capacity and workspace management, the medallion pattern, and governance and security within Fabric — able to explain and justify design choices.
  • Azure data services: solid experience with Azure Data Services (Storage, Key Vault and related services) in enterprise environments.
  • Data engineering fundamentals: strong knowledge of data ingestion, transformation and orchestration frameworks, and building pipelines across bronze/silver/gold layers.
  • SQL & modelling: proficiency in SQL and data modelling, and handling both structured and unstructured data.
  • Security & governance: familiarity with security, governance and deployment best practice in enterprise data environments.
  • Delivery lifecycle: hands-on experience supporting UAT, CAB processes and production deployments, and producing as-built documentation.
  • Client-facing skills: strong written and verbal communication; comfortable running knowledge-transfer sessions and working directly with client stakeholders.

Local presence & eligibility: based in Malaysia with existing right to work, and able to attend the client site at least two days per week
