Summary

Senior Data Engineer building and improving data pipelines on the ClarusONE data platform (McKesson) using Snowflake, dbt, Airflow and Python, with strong testing, CI/CD and data-governance practices. Hybrid UK role — two days onsite per week; existing UK right to work required as sponsorship is not offered.

Role Overview

The Senior Data Engineer is a hands‑on engineer on the ClarusONE data platform, building and improving the data pipelines the business relies on. You will design and deliver reliable, well‑tested pipelines in line with the team's established roadmap, and help the team build and release its work consistently.

You will work within the ClarusONE data governance framework, handling sensitive data responsibly, and collaborate with Analytics, Data Science, Software Engineering, and IT/Infrastructure. You will also speak with colleagues across the business to understand their needs, scope requirements and pain points, and explain your work in clear, practical terms.

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering & Delivery

  • Design and build robust, scalable data pipelines (Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Python)
  • Apply strong practices in test‑driven development, monitoring, logging, and observability
  • Improve existing pipelines to make them more scalable and reliable
  • Support production issues and drive root‑cause improvements rather than quick fixes

Engineering Practices & Delivery

  • Contribute reusable frameworks and approaches that help the team build consistently
  • Work within established patterns and the platform roadmap, suggesting practical improvements along the way
  • Use CI/CD pipelines and controlled release processes to test and deploy changes safely
  • Share practical approaches with other Data Engineers

Data Quality & Governance

  • Contribute to data quality and lineage so figures can be traced back to source
  • Handle sensitive data appropriately within the ClarusONE data governance framework, including being thoughtful about how data is used with AI tools

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with Analytics & Data Insights, Software Engineering, and IT/Infrastructure
  • Gather requirements from across the business, clarifying scope and pain points
  • Show and explain the work you are doing to colleagues in clear, practical terms

Minimum Requirement

Degree or equivalent and typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience.

Education

Bachelor's degree level or above

Critical Skills

  • 4+ years' experience in data engineering
  • Advanced SQL and Python, with hands‑on experience building and maintaining data pipelines
  • Hands‑on experience with Snowflake, dbt, and Airflow (or a similar modern data stack)
  • Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines and controlled release processes, including automated testing
  • Experience with test‑driven development, monitoring, and troubleshooting production issues
  • Experience working on a cloud data platform
  • Clear communication skills, including gathering requirements from non‑technical colleagues

Desirable

  • Databricks / PySpark
  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code or containerised environments
  • A thoughtful, measured approach to new tools, including AI, with attention to governance, ethics, and protecting confidential data

Working Arrangements

This is a hybrid role based in the UK, with an expectation of two days per week onsite. Applicants must hold existing right to work in the UK; sponsorship is not available for this position.
