About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, autonomous Senior Data Engineer – Power BI Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will bridge the gap between complex enterprise data pipelines, analytical reporting, and business leadership. Beyond engineering backend pipelines, you will design, optimize, and secure high-performance Power BI data models that power executive decision-making.
As a staff augmentation partner, you will hit the ground running within our Agile sprint cadence—collaborating directly with stakeholders as both a data engineer and Power BI developer to deliver fast, scalable analytics solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Data Modeling & Architecture: Design clean Star Schemas (Fact/Dimension tables), engineer enterprise semantic layers, and optimize Power BI models for high performance on massive datasets (100M+ rows).
Pipeline & Query Engineering: Write advanced, highly optimized SQL queries (using CTEs, window functions, and stored procedures) to extract, transform, and validate data for reporting layer consumption.
Power BI Development: Design and deploy high-impact executive dashboards, operational reports, and financial scorecards tailored for both desktop and mobile layouts.
Security & Governance: Implement and manage robust Row-Level Security (RLS) and Object-Level Security (OLS) within Power BI to protect sensitive enterprise data.
Stakeholder Alignment: Collaborate directly with business leaders to translate reporting requirements into technical data solutions and present finished Power BI dashboards to executive teams.
Candidate Requirements
Professional Experience
5+ years of hands‑on experience as a Power BI Developer / Data Engineer building enterprise‑scale reporting solutions.
3+ years within the Microsoft Azure data ecosystem (preferred).
Proven track record supporting executive-level financial and operational dashboards.
Demonstrated experience working within an Agile / Scrum development lifecycle.
Technical Expertise
Power BI Mastery: Expert‑level proficiency in Power BI (Desktop & Service), Dataflows, and Semantic Models. Daily fluency with developer tools like Tabular Editor and DAX Studio.
Advanced DAX & Calculations: Mastery of complex DAX patterns, calculation groups, dynamic measures, and custom time‑intelligence models.
Advanced SQL: Expert‑level ability to write, debug, and optimize complex joins, CTEs, views, and stored procedures for data preparation.
Data Warehousing & Modeling: Deep understanding of dimensional modeling, Star Schema design, handling complex relationships, and data warehouse principles.
Modern Microsoft Stack (Highly Preferred): Experience with Azure Synapse, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake (ADLS), and exposure to or interest in Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Direct Lake).
DevOps & Tooling: Familiarity with Git version control, Azure DevOps, and Power Automate.
