Senior Data Engineer
Summary
Design and build scalable Microsoft-based data pipelines and Power BI reports to enable data-driven decisions in a biotech company.
As our Senior Data Engineer / BI Specialist you will design, build, and maintain scalable data solutions using the Microsoft data platform. Your role will enable data-driven decision-making through modern data engineering, Microsoft Fabric, and Power BI, while supporting BI, analytics, automation, and long-term data strategy initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Engineering & Architecture
- Design, develop, and optimise scalable data pipelines using Microsoft technologies (Azure Data Factory, Fabric Dataflows, Synapse / Fabric).
- Build and maintain lakehouse/warehouse data models, including facts and dimensions that support Power BI reporting and analytics.
- Implement data ingestion patterns for structured and unstructured data sources.
- Ensure high data quality, integrity, and reliability across data platforms.
2. Microsoft Fabric & Modern Data Platform
- Manage and optimise Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Data Engineering).
- Define best practices for data architecture, governance, and performance tuning within Fabric.
- Support migration from legacy data platforms to Fabric (if applicable).
3. Power BI Development
- Develop and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models.
- Create efficient and high-performance data models including star schema design, DAX development, and report optimisation.
- Work closely with business stakeholders to translate requirements into impactful visualisations.
4. Data Integration & ETL/ELT
- Develop ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory / Fabric pipelines.
- Integrate data from ERP systems, manufacturing systems, and other enterprise applications.
- Automate and schedule data workflows.
5. Data Governance & Compliance
- Implement data governance, security, and access controls aligned with enterprise policies.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., GxP / data integrity principles, if applicable).
- Define data quality rules, monitoring, and lineage tracking.
6. Stakeholder Collaboration
- Collaborate with data analysts and business stakeholders to identify, prioritise, and deliver data needs.
- Integrate new data sources efficiently into the enterprise data platform.
- Expand analytics and automation capabilities to support innovation, growth, and digitalisation.
- Support evolving business domains including Supply Chain, Production, Quality, Finance, and HR.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Skills
- Bachelor or Master degree in Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, Analytics, or related field.
- Strong experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Dataflows), Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, SQL, and SQL Server.
- Advanced Power BI development, including data modelling, DAX, and performance optimisation.
- Proficiency in: SQL (advanced level), Python or Spark (preferred for Fabric / big data scenarios).
- Experience with data warehousing concepts and modern architectures (medallion architecture, lakehouse).
- > 5 years of relevant experience in Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, Analytics, or related roles, with demonstrated experience in Microsoft data platforms and Power BI.
Nice to Have
- Experience in regulated environments (pharma, biotech, manufacturing, GxP).
- Knowledge of data governance frameworks and tools.
- Exposure to DevOps / CI-CD pipelines for data solutions.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and operational systems integration.

What we offer:
- Full-time employment (40h) with flexible working hours in consultation. Working part-time can be discussed.
- Salary between€ 4.702,26 and € 6.759,41 gross per month (based on full-time employment).
- 8.33% holiday allowance and a 13th month.
