About Your Team / Ko Te Tīma
Enterprise Planning and Implementation is a new group established at WorkSafe to strengthen planning, coordination, and implementation across the organisation, particularly to improve how work is prioritised, sequenced, and supported through to delivery.
The Data, Analytics and AI team is at the heart of enabling data‑driven decision‑making across WorkSafe and is responsible for building and maintaining the data assets to meet WorkSafe’s data, insights and intelligence needs. Working closely with analysts, architects, engineers, and business stakeholders, the team develops the data foundations that support reporting, analytics, and organisational performance.

About The Role / Ō Te Tūranga
As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining the data platforms and pipelines that power analytics, business intelligence, and AI across WorkSafe. You'll work in a complex data environment, integrating data from multiple sources and delivering scalable, secure, and reliable solutions that support organisational decision‑making. This is an opportunity to solve challenging technical problems while helping WorkSafe maximise the value of its data assets.
What You'll Do/ Ko tōu ake mahi
- Design and build scalable data platforms and pipelines.
- Integrate complex data sources into trusted data assets.
- Develop robust ETL/ELT processes for analytics and reporting.
- Optimise data performance, reliability, and availability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex data engineering issues.
- Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and technology teams.
- Apply engineering best practice to support AI and analytics solutions.

What You'll Bring / Ko ngā pukenga ōu
- Proven ability to design and deliver production‑ready data platforms and pipelines
- Strong capability in building ETL/ELT solutions across multiple and complex data sources
- Hands‑on knowledge of cloud‑based data platforms and modern data architectures
- Expertise in data quality, testing, monitoring, and performance optimisation.
- Relevant qualification in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- Familiarity with specific Azure data services such as Data Factory, Synapse, Fabric, or equivalent platforms is preferred
Salary range / Awhe utu
As part of our remuneration framework, the full salary range for this position is $120,551-$158,328 with the expected appointment base salary $120,551 - $133,143 (KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contributions are additional). From 1 April 2026 our KiwiSaver employer contribution increased to 3.5%.
