Summary
A Senior Data Engineer joins a Leeds Housing Association to build out its modern data platform on Microsoft Fabric and Azure. Day to day: designing and optimising data pipelines, working with Lakehouse/Medallion architecture, setting CI/CD and testing standards, and migrating legacy data solutions to the cloud.

About the Role
They’re now looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join the team at an important point in that journey. You’ll be hands-on with the technology, while also having the opportunity to influence how the organisation approaches data engineering, architecture and delivery as the platform develops. This isn't simply a role maintaining an established data estate. You'll be involved in building new capability, improving engineering practices and helping move the organisation towards a more modern, scalable data environment.
Responsibilities
What you'll be doing
- You'll have responsibility for a range of data engineering and platform activity, including:
- Designing, developing and optimising data pipelines and integrations
- Developing solutions within the Microsoft Fabric environment
- Working with Lakehouse architecture and modern data engineering patterns
- Helping establish standards around development, testing, automation and CI/CD
- Supporting the migration of existing data solutions into a modern cloud environment
- Working with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions
- Providing technical guidance and supporting the development of other engineers
- Taking ownership of complex data engineering problems and helping identify the right technical approach
- Contributing to the ongoing development of the organisation's data platform and engineering standards
Required Skills
What we're looking for
- You'll ideally have experience across a number of the following:
- Modern Microsoft data technologies, particularly Microsoft Fabric or Azure
- Building and managing data pipelines using ETL/ELT
- Strong SQL skills alongside PySpark, Spark or similar
- Modern data architecture, including Lakehouse and Medallion approaches
- Azure DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing and deployment
- Data modelling, data quality and governance
- Experience working closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A willingness to take ownership and help shape how a data engineering function operates
Pay range and compensation package
- Leeds – hybrid, with occasional office attendance (around 1–2 days per month)
- £55,000-£60,000 + strong benefits package and excellent pension
