Senior Data Engineer
Summary
Hands-on 6-month contract (extendable) leading an organisation's first data transformation: designing and delivering a Microsoft Fabric data platform and centralised warehouse/lakehouse, building automated ETL/ELT pipelines, Power BI semantic models, and governance, then documenting and transferring knowledge to internal teams.

About the Role
This is an opportunity to lead the delivery of a data transformation, helping an organisation establish its first centralised data warehouse and modern reporting capability.
This is a hands-on contract role where you'll take ownership from discovery and architecture design through to implementation, documentation and knowledge transfer.
What You'll Do
Lead the end-to-end design and delivery of a Microsoft Fabric data platform.
Design and implement scalable data warehouse/lakehouse architecture.
Build and optimise automated data pipelines from APIs, databases, SaaS platforms and file-based sources.
Replace manual reporting processes with robust, governed ETL/ELT solutions.
Develop data models to support operational, commercial and financial reporting.
Improve data quality, governance, security and access controls.
Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance reporting and Power BI capabilities.
Implement monitoring, logging and recovery processes to ensure platform reliability.
Support future integrations and AI-driven analytics initiatives.
Produce technical documentation and provide knowledge transfer to internal teams
Experience & Capabilities
Strong hands-on experience with Fabric Data Factory.
Experience designing and implementing data warehouse or lakehouse solutions.
Advanced SQL and data modelling expertise.
Experience integrating SaaS applications via REST APIs, database connectors and file-based ingestion.
Experience building and optimising automated ETL/ELT pipelines.
Experience designing data models and semantic models for Power BI.
Experience implementing data security, access controls and deployment frameworks.
Ability to work directly with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
