Senior Data Engineer

Summary

Senior Data Engineer building BI warehouses, data lakes, and ETL pipelines using big data, streaming, and data visualisation tools on both on-premise and cloud platforms.

Salary: £48,000 - 88,000 per year

Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in IT, Systems, Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years experience across Business Intelligence, data warehousing, data management and ETL.
  • Strong experience delivering data solutions within BI warehouses and/or data lake environments across both on-premise and cloud platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with Big Data technologies, data ingestion and streaming.
  • Confident working with data lakes and data visualisation tools, including semantic modelling.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture principles and best practices.
  • Passion for engaging with stakeholders and collaborating across teams to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Passion for sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues and contributing to a collaborative team culture.
Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with our Data Engineering team to deliver reliable, high-quality data that powers impactful data flows and predictive models, confidently contributing ideas and solutions along the way.
  • Use a range of languages and tools to design, build and manage robust data pipelines across multiple systems, ensuring data is accessible, trusted and ready to drive decision-making.
  • Play an active role in key technical discussions and decisions, helping to drive our outcome-focused SWAT approach and deliver meaningful results.
  • Take the initiative to identify new opportunities for data acquisition and uncover ways to generate greater value from existing data assets.
  • Collaborate effectively with Data Science, Analytics, Architecture and wider technology teams to design, build, test and maintain scalable, high-performing data environments.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of GDPR principles and confidently raise concerns or challenge decisions where appropriate to ensure compliance and best practice.
  • Bring genuine curiosity for emerging technologies, a passion for continuous learning, and a keen interest in understanding and supporting the Vitality business.
  • Support, mentor and share knowledge with fellow Data Engineers, helping to create a collaborative culture where everyone can grow and succeed.
  • Actively listen to both technical and business stakeholders, building strong relationships and communicating complex concepts clearly, confidently and effectively.
  • Proactively identify potential challenges and risks, taking ownership to shape practical solutions that build trust, drive innovation and deliver outstanding outcomes.
