🧭 Overview

  • Our client is looking for a Data Governance Specialist to join an established engagement supporting one of Canada's leading financial institutions.
  • This is a hands-on Data Governance / Enterprise Data Management role within an Enterprise Data Lifecycle Management workstream, focused on Data Retention & Disposition, Data Stewardship, Data Quality, Data Remediation, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness.
  • This is primarily an execution role, working within established processes and SOPs rather than defining governance strategy.
  • Applicants must be based in Toronto. This role includes Hybrid flexibility: approximately one day per week onsite in Toronto, with four days remote.


🛠️ What You'll Be Doing

  • Execute data retention and disposition workflows using established governance processes and SOPs.
  • Create and maintain data asset records, governance documentation, and audit evidence.
  • Progress data issues and remediation tickets through completion.
  • Support retention code assignment, validation, retention schedules, and disposition activities.
  • Coordinate with application owners, data stewards, technical teams, and governance stakeholders.
  • Track workflows.
  • Manage multiple parallel workstreams and proactively follow up on blockers and outstanding actions.
  • Lead stakeholder meetings independently once fully ramped.


🧩 Desired Experience

  • 4–5+ years in Data Governance, Data Management, Data Stewardship, Business Analysis, or a compliance-adjacent role.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Data Management, Data Governance, Data Stewardship, Data Inventory, Data Quality, Data Retention & Disposition, Records Management, and Data Controls.
  • Experience within a large, matrixed and highly regulated organization.
  • Financial services experience preferred, including banking, insurance, capital markets, or private equity. Other highly regulated industries will be considered.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow, Jira, or comparable workflow/ticketing tools.
  • Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and structured reporting.
  • Experience with Power BI and/or Tableau.
  • Strong stakeholder management, documentation, and project coordination skills.
