Senior Data Governance Specialist

We are looking for an experienced Data Governance Specialist to help establish and implement a pragmatic data governance framework within a complex, regulated environment. The role focuses strongly on data protection, NIS2 compliance, data quality, metadata, and data governance practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, map, classify, and document critical data and data flows.
  • Define and implement data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Establish data protection, access control, backup, and recovery requirements.
  • Support NIS2 compliance related to critical data management.
  • Improve data quality, discoverability, accessibility, documentation, and traceability.
  • Manage data lineage, metadata, reference data (MDM), and data modelling.
  • Define governance roles, responsibilities, and processes.
  • Support the selection and adoption of data governance and metadata management tools.
  • Train and support stakeholders in data governance best practices.
  • Collaborate with DPO, CISO, Enterprise Architecture, Data & Analytics, IT, and business teams.
  • Drive stakeholder alignment, change management, and continuous improvement.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in Data Governance and Data Quality.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK.
  • Practical experience with governance and metadata tools such as Collibra, Informatica, or OvalEdge.
  • Strong understanding of data management, data quality, metadata, and data lineage.
  • Excellent documentation, presentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and influence stakeholders across different teams.
  • Strong leadership and change-management capabilities.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of NIS2, GDPR, ISO/IEC 38505, or ISO 8000.
  • Knowledge of UML and ArchiMate.
  • Experience in regulated sectors such as finance, healthcare, or the public sector.

Languages

  • French and/or Dutch: Fluent.
  • English: An advantage.

Work Arrangement

  • Location: Brussels, Belgium.
  • Assignment: Long-term opportunity, potentially up to 880 working days.
