We're looking for a senior, hands-on engineer with experience building, deploying and supporting data-intensive backend systems.
Working alongside an existing engineering team, you'll own application code, data pipelines and AWS deployment, introducing improvements and managing changes through to production.
The Role:
- Develop backend services and reliable pipelines that integrate external data sources.
- Improve asynchronous processing, handling duplicates, retries, interrupted jobs and recovery.
- Deploy and operate applications on AWS, with effective monitoring and automated release pipelines.
- Manage database changes and system migrations, comparing outputs and planning controlled cutovers and rollback.
- Take ownership from initial investigation through implementation, production support and handover.
Requirement's:
- Strong production backend engineering experience. The application uses Python, but engineers from other language backgrounds will be considered if they can become productive quickly.
- Hands-on AWS experience across services such as Lambda, ECS/Fargate, SQS, S3 and RDS, alongside IAM, networking, secrets and infrastructure as code.
- Experience with data ingestion and queue-based systems, including data quality, idempotency, concurrency and partial failures.
- Strong SQL and relational database experience, ideally PostgreSQL, covering transactions, schema changes and query performance.
- Experience with CI/CD, containers, structured logging, metrics, tracing and actionable alerts.
- Practical experience using coding agents for implementation, testing and review, with independent verification of their output.
- Confidence working autonomously, identifying dependencies and communicating decisions clearly.
You don't need every named technology, but you should have concrete examples of comparable systems you have personally delivered and operated.
