Senior Data Scientist / AI Engineer - Generative AI

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Scientist / AI Engineer to build and scale Generative AI applications. The role is permanent based in Stockholm or Helsinki. We work in a hybrid model and expect team members to work three days per week in the office. This is an English‑speaking working environment.

About The Team

Join Nordea’s AI & Machine Learning team, part of the group financial crime prevention (GFCP) unit that provides financial crime prevention services across Nordea. We use AI to improve how we detect and investigate financial crime across the bank, helping to keep our customers, our company, and society safe. The team is about 25 colleagues based in Stockholm, Helsinki and Copenhagen. We have already launched Nordea’s first generative AI product and are now building the next wave of high impact generative AI use cases. You will help turn ideas into production‑grade AI solutions in financial crime prevention, working closely with business stakeholders and experienced colleagues across the Nordics.

In this role, you will

• Identify and prototype high‑impact GenAI projects with business stakeholders
• Build, deploy and monitor production‑grade Gen AI applications
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (product, engineering, data) to deliver end‑to‑end solutions
• Design and implement evaluation frameworks to measure and improve application quality
• Contribute to best practices, tooling and architecture for Generative AI development
• Document models and evaluations to meet risk and compliance standards and ensure responsible use of AI

Your background and skills

• MSc or PhD in Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or related fields. Equivalent practical experience is also valued.
• 3+ years experience delivering production ML/AI systems in Python
• Experience developing generative AI applications, using LLM APIs, RAG, agentic frameworks, or emerging patterns (MCP, A2A, etc.)
• Experience with structured testing, evaluation metrics, and experimentation for AI applications
• Experience with standard DevOps practices: git, observability, and production debugging
• Solid understanding of systems design for ML & AI applications
• A proven track‑record of turning ideas into prototypes, and prototypes into production applications
• A knack for tackling complex problems and creating simple solutions
• Strong communication skills across technical and non‑technical stakeholders
